Carlsbad, where the playas play... more like where the elderly shut the town down at nine o'clock every night...

Ike and Tina Turner, "Rollin' On the River". You can do it easy or you can do it hard. The Ike and Tina Review, circa 1970's.

BTW, thanks for the memory, HenHowC.

<< ROFLMAO, Goober. That's kinda like the pot calling the kettle black.
Yeah, we have our queers. Laguna Beach is one of their strongholds, along with Long Beach
>>

Ha ha...I wonder why Snoop Doggy Dogg doesn't incorporate that into his songs whenever he's rapping about how hardcore Long Beach is :D

Geez,

Long, long ago, in a land far, far away, called Carlsbad, I had the misfortune of having to spend the night due to a work problem. You exaggerate when you say they roll up the sidewalks at 9:00pm. I thought it was 6:00. Even the clerks at Mc D's were yawning..

"Thanks for the Memory".........

bombrman, if you are from the So. Cal. area you must know that Long Beach has one of the largest homosexual communities south of San Francisco. It's no secret.

Unfortunately, MrDingleDangle, no matter where you go, there you are.

I can't help you with where to go drinking. Long ago there were a lot of strip joint/beer bars up and down Valley Boulevard in El Monte. At one time I could lead you to every one of them with my eyes closed. Looking out from the wrong side of the jail bars in the City of Industry Sheriffs Department caused me to to have an epiphany. I was doing things I shouldn't do. Don't get me wrong, I didn't give up drinking, I just quit going to sleazy bars and pissing everybody off.

I have to travel a lot so I know what it's lilke to be in new places and not know anyone.

Hang in there, California isn't perfect, but there are much worse places. A lot of nice people live out here, you just need to get to know them.

I'm not sure that last sentence came out right.

cedman:

When I was in the army I was stationed at Fort MacArthur for awhile. Is it still there? On the Upper Reservation there were huge mortar pits to defend against a Japanese invasion. I used to hang out down on the wharf sometimes.

Just remembered, some of my buddies and I used to climb the cliffs at Point Fermin. Do they still let people do that?

No no...nothing wrong with it at all.

But Fullerton's right next to Long Beach and I never heard anything about its gayness...

Raised in Granada Hills (Yes, I was a valley dude) -- currently in Illinois

BTW on the subject of LA traffic, my GF thought I was a crazy driver, until she spent her first week with me in the LA area on the 101, 405, 5 and 118 freeways.

She said, with knuckles and face quite white: "Why is it that you seem like the most sane driver out here, and a nut in IL?"

I said, "My driving hasn't changed, just the drivers around me. Would you like to drive?"

I hear silence for a second, and then a little whimper comes from the passenger seat, "f'ck no."

duk, I've been wanting to try the L.A. subway. How is it?

Zakath115, you have my sympathy. God, it even rains there in the summer, doesn't it?

Bombrman, wasn't implyng anything. I didn't know about it until just lately. Evidentlly the gays have been taking over the city for quite a long time. Like I said in a former post, I don't care about people's life styles as long as they don't intrude on mine.

jooksing, Rosemead, hmmmmm.......yeah the freeways blow 24 hours a day.

AmusedOne, you escaped. How did you do it? I hear they have real trees there and not just plastic ones.

I hear you AmusedOne. I spent two years in the Carribean with the Peace Corps. and when I came back I thought everyone was nuts! All around me people were rushing to do the most mundane things. The freeways were actually scarey until I remembered my native California driving abilities.
