Has anyone received one of these in the post price-cut rush to buy an X2?

X2 4200+
ADA4200DAA5BV
LDBFE 0611RPMW

Mine arrived today but before I open the box I thought I'd see if anyone had any experience of how this core/week/batch overclocks?

Edit: This is the E4 stepping.

Edit: Socket is 939

So if it was a "bad" stepping, you'd send it back?

As long as it is still sealed, I don't see a problem with that. It's not like he opened it and it didn't o/c the way he wanted it and then returned it. That I am opposed to.

Well, this contributes to higher prices, harder RMA guidelines, and the reason you pay a restocking fee.

The restocking fee nullifies your first two points, tard.

Mine is an LDBFE 0613VPMW
It's at 2.5 @ 1.35. Haven't tried 2.6 yet. I can't see what it will really do, because this silly motherboard will only allow 1.4v.

Taking suggestions on a good OCing board under $100. I'll never run Xfire or SLI.

Well there's always the chance that you'll get the same stepping. I doubt they have a massive variety of 939 procs in stock.

psh, who cares about stepping, stepping doesn't always guarantee a good overclock. LUCK is what your after.

After looking at this I tried 2.6. I'm at 2.6@1.35. Only problem is I had to back the Ram down to 185MHz.
It's been doing a DVD shrink and running dual Prime small FFTs for the last hour without error. 32C case, and CPU temp is 54C
This dual-core is really nice. Before, even with my Opty clocked at 2850 the machine was barely useable wen encoding or priming.
Now I'm encoding and priming, and I can still listen to music and browse the web.

Why is it that every post you make is just there to insult people who make valid points?

Under the UK Distance Selling Act I believe we have 7 days to return an unused item if we change our minds. I've never done this but I would consider returning the cpu if it was a dead loss for overclocking. My guess is there'd be a restocking fee and I would be prepared to pay that if not excessive. Otherwise I have to take my luck on Ebay. If I did RMA, I'd probably get the 3800+ instead.

But this is all academic since as someone correctly said, the luck factor is as important. I'm going to give it a shot once I get the time, which at this rate propably wont be until the weekend.

PS. This is a 939 if that makes any difference.

I've got my x2 3800+ since Monday. It seems to run Prime very stable @ stocked speed but when I crank it up to 2.42ghz which has caused lockup/freezes in Prime and in 3dmark06. What's up with that?
Current setup:
Fsb is 200mhz, HT is 5x and 10x multiplier. Temp is 38c

You need to lower the HT multiplier to x4 to keep the bus below 1000MHz. Did you raise vcore at all? You will probably need to at that frequency.

Is it a LDBFE?

Update on mine. I had an error on core 1 about 2 hours in, so I bumped to 1.375, and kicked it off again.
It ran overnight, and I left it running. If it's still going when I get home it will have run ~18 hours, and gone through the hottest part of the day.
Puts me at 2.6(236x11)@1.375, 4xHTT, 5:6 Ram divider

Thats a nice overclock on such low volts. Are you going for more?

Question for those with the newly x2 upgrade...Are you using AMD optimizer and AMD dual utililty drivers currently?
My system seems running unstable with those installed but I'm not sure it is the exact culprit. From what I've read around the forums it could have been the cause. ANy comments?

The first thing I did was install the driver and optimiser, and no problems here so far.

Ditto got my CPU today....LDBFE 0613 TPAW, BH-E4 stepping.

Just playing a little bit before i left for work and it's sitting pretty at 2.4 Ghz 218X11 with stock volt of 1.375-8

Good stuff so far for just the stock cooler idling at about 34C in a warm room(27C ambient)

Will play more tonight when I get off

videopho, did you lower the HT multiplier, apply a memory divider & raise the vcore as per my previous question? And is your cpu a LDBFE? I started this thread to find out what this chip is like for OCing.

what heatsink do you use?

I'll try for more, but my motherboard only lets me have 1.4 vcore. That along with crap vdimm adjustment is making me look at these:
EPoX EP-9NPAJ
DFI nF4 SLI Infinity

Just talked to my wife, and she says "programs still open and both boxes are still red, but it's louder than usual". That's 14 hours and counting now!!

I put the HotFix on, but didn't install the driver. I thought the driver was just for CNQ?

Is the MS hotfix and the optimizer the same thing? Some here have said it is and you only need one or the other, whereas I've read elsewhere that you should have the AMD Driver in combination with both the AMD Optimizer and MS Hotfix installed. Anyone have any insight?
