Shake Shack vs In n Out vs Five Guys

Never had Shake Shack. I like In and Out, but don't think it's amazing or anything. Had it in LA, now we have it in Dallas, it's the same both places. Our 5 guys here are incredible though, thicker, juicier, just plain better patties. Awesome for a FF burger. Perhaps they vary from region to region like many chains do. I've been to 'okay' burger kings, and ones that made me want to vomit on the counter.
 
5 Guys is the only one we have around here, but at their closest restaurant to me there's a Baha Burger next door which kicks the crap out of 'em.
 
In n Out is so overrated. I suppose for what it is its ok, a cheap burger, but if you cant make something a million times better at home, you fail at life.
 
I've only had InnOut out of those and while it isn't my favorite, it's better than anything I've had in that class of burgers.

and as NS1 says, you simply can't beet the value on the double double meal. I'm sooooo glad there isn't one nearby.

I bet your one of those people who thinks everything they make at home is vastly superior to any restaurant. I can cook but I can't make a burger better than In N Out. If you could make a burger a million times better you need to open a chain, hell if you could make one that's twice as good you should open a chain because you would be RICH. In N Out only serves burgers and they stay packed from when they open till when they close. And there's a reason for that.

I disagree. It takes more than a "killer" recipe to open a food chain. Making something "twice as good" usually requires top shelf, quality ingredients, which I assure these "chain" joints do not use. People continue to dine as said places becuase they are consistent (consistently mediocre, that is)

I haven't tried Shake Shack yet. I LOVE In&Out. I&O will forever hold a very special place in my heart. It's delicious, and many fond memories from childhood where the double double was always involved in one way or another.

That said, I also do like 5 guys. I don't think it's as delicious/a-good-value as in&out, but it's definitely not a bad burger place. You really can't go wrong with either. But still, if there's an in&out, and a fiveguys next to each other, I'll choose in&out EVERY SINGLE TIME. In fact, there's now a fiveguys near my work (on Rosecrans st, in Point Loma, San Diego). However, just a few blocks down, there's an In&Out. If we need a burger, we go to In&Out. Everytime.

Everytime I do go to the east coast though, I make an effort to go go potbelly's. Sigh, I wish the west coast had Potbelly's; that's a great sandwich chain 🙂.

Now, I'm curious about Shake Shack...

This thread and that article is making me HONGRY!!! 😡😡

Love me some potbelly's, they do have great multigrain bread and I really like their Italian with multigrain bread, and hot peppers, SO good for a fast food chain.

And it's about 5 miles from my house 😀
 
No mention of backyard burgers? Those are y favorite chain problaby though I haven't had one in over 10 years.

I think In n Out is probably the most overrated fast food chain. Not the worst at all, but low. I haven't had shake shack.

Five guys, the wall is covered in praise from cities around the country, I think it's very overrated too, but more justified than In n Out. It does seem a lot like a homemade burger, and is a satisfying burger, but there's just something missing in the taste - when I eat one, it just seems 'it's ok, and seems decent quality, but not exciting.'

Something keeps me going on rare occassion to In n Out, maybe the combo of freshness and value.

Most independent places' burgers just seem better.

For just one example we have a 'Philippino fusion' type place with an 'Adobe' burger whatever that is that is nice, with a pineapple slice - and you can get truffle oil fries.
 
I don't know about the others... but Five Guys sucks. It's quite frankly the worst $6 burger that I ever had.

Also, the (cajun) fries were a soggy overseasoned mess. Yuck.

I grew up near Burgermaster, they are pretty good and the shakes are great, but are a drive in. You don't see many of those left, where they come to your car to take the order and deliver the food. I have not tried INO or SS, but I do prefer Burgermaster over Five Guys.
