I already did too, in between backing Wasteland 2 and Grim Dawn.

2013 might end up being a great year for veteran-developer indie games.

Then maybe Troika and Obsidian staff will do their own KS projects. Sadly the next World of Darkness game is a politics-based MMO, I'd throw sacks of money at a real Vampire TM Bloodlines sequel.

that was turning it into gold in comparison.

Well thank God you told us about that vague thing that happened at some time. I know it may or may not have strongly or weakly influenced my decision regarding something in this thread or that other thread

Is this anything like the Genesis Shadowrun done by the now-defunct Blue Sky, or is it totally different?

Not enough information at the moment - but I doubt it. SNES and Genesis games were "arcadish" real time games.

The dev video on the kickstarter page indicates a "graphically rich 2d tactical turned base adventure with highly contextual game play"

He also mentioned that since they own the license they are allowed to do a role playing game for tablets and PC.

I'm going to guess maybe something similar to the old school "2d isometric" games [original Fallout game].

Man you are making me nostalgic. I'd love to see the original staff of Troika back in action. Oh and don't forget Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura ! I'd love to see a remake of this game as well. However yes I love to see a good Shadowrun game! Going to keep my on this one.

so they made 1.3 million dollars for the funding?

Is that near enough?

Made? It's got several days left. And sure 1.3 mil is enough. Remember the original goal was $400,000. It's a 2D tactical RPG, which in this day-and-age cuts down on a lot of development costs.

They put out a nice chart in the early stages of the project:

They then later posted this when funding hit 1 million: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xLjCglq2bAg

Note: In a later update, by backer request, they're making the originally "backers only" level public.

honestly shadowrun pnp was pretty much crap, expecially for when it came out. heroclix? this guy's game design career doesn't inspire me at all. mind you i would like somthing along the lines of the first vampire pcrpg, but i'm not really hot for anything shadowrun.

Its damn near impossible to put a real RPG on the computer, thats why I settle for stuff like Fallout and Baldurs Gate.
But Shadowrun could be done properly if someone put real effort into it.

Turn-based 2D RPG?

I DON'T CARE IF THE SETTING IS HELLO KITTY ADVENTURE ISLAND, TAKE MY MONEY.

Was overlooking this thread initially because I foolishly assumed it was just another fakeRPG with an fps engine and real time combat. Sounds like I almost made a terrible mistake, glad I checked it out.

Edit:

That said, the concept of giving you in-game bonus much like "pay to win" games as rewards for large kickstarter pledges is utter BS and almost completely changes my opinion of the project. At this point undecided if I'll pledge $15 or not, the idea of being at a disadvantage from the start because I didn't pledge enough leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Give the higher backers cosmetic bonuses, physical bonuses, in game mentions or whatever, don't give them game play bonuses.

It's single-player, so big backers getting an easy button won't affect your game.

With many single-player games you can mod or hack in an easy button, it's up to you to resist that temptation.

All we know is backers get a "bonus ability", and I seriously doubt it'll be anything close to game-breaking. For all we know it turns the screen purple while your computer laughs at you. Hell I usually don't play with special stuff anyway, provides increased challenge.

Also, keep in mind the backers are extremely with you on this. Th reward for 1.5 million was going to be a "backers only bonus level" that tied in the plots of the previous games. The outcry was such that they agreed to make it available to the public sometime after launch, so it's a "backers get it early" level now. Works for me.

I pledged $15 because from all appearances I'd want the game anyway, and $15 for a solid 2D tactical RPG is a sweet deal IMO.

I recall the SNES version being turn-based, very much like the original Fallout games.

I did not enjoy the Genesis version--but I only played it briefly before realizing it wasn't quite like the SNES one.

I loved that game, btw.

Such a great update today: it's been announced that they've hired the music composers from BOTH the SNES and Genesis games to collaborate on the soundtrack for this project. Massive win, IMO.
