And then they made Stargate Universe.... the Stargate: Teenage Drama
I just couldn't stand the filming style. I guess the director wanted it to look like it was shot with a webcam. No signs of image steadying technology anywhere. And he loved shooting over someone's shoulder, or else frame the shot with someone's arm and hand on their hip - there was constantly a person standing right in the blurry, shaky foreground. Even the effects scenes in space sometimes lacked steadying technology...and that just doesn't even make sense. There are surely other ways of creating atmosphere in a scene which don't make it look like it was shot with decades-old video technology.

I liked the Wormhole Extreme episode (and the later followup), particularly for this scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqlx77c6qj0

"I'm Christian Bocher. I'm portraying the character of Raymond Gunn, who portrays the character of Dr. Levant which is based on the character Daniel Jackson portrayed by the actor, Michael Shanks. Originally portrayed by the actor James Spader, in the feature film.

*looks at camera operator with a concerned look*

Are you okay?"

SG1 rules. I do agree S7 and before is the best but I didn't dislike the rest. Groundhog day episode does rule too :)

Yea it was titled "Window of Opportunity" and one of my favorite episodes in SG1. Season4 was packed with great episodes including that one and "Upgrades". Seasons 2-4 are my favorite. After s7 the writing slacks and it gets really hard to watch anymore. :(

And then there's Stargate Atlantis which took me a while to warm up to but I ended up really liking that show. Was stoked when Carter came on board for season4 but then season5 was not so great with Woolsey in charge :(

Season 5 was amazing, tons of great episodes. First Contact and The Lost Tribe (2 parter with Michael Shanks), Brain Storm, Inquisition, Vegas, The Shrine, and the series finale was solid, even if it was a bit rushed. It was obviously supposed to be a 2 parter to straddle the season 5-6 gap.

Also, another one of my favorites is Tao of Rodney, that one was great too, along with Tabula Rasa and Midway. And any episode with Rodney and his sister.

Deadalus(dimensional drive one) and the Last Human (Shepard in the future) are great as well. (not sure on titles)

My biggest issue with Atlantis in the beginning was/is Lt.Ford, never liked his character for some reason.

It was intended to look like a reality show. They deliberately moved the camera like that even when it didn't make sense. I hated it too.

The more they varied from the original cast, the worse it got. Pretty much everything with Richard Dean Anderson in it was awesome.

Ben Browder is fantastic in the right role (John Chrighton in Farscape), but he just never felt quite right for SG1. Probably because he walked into an established show and never really had the chance to gel properly. He did ok, but just didn't quite capture the magic of RDA.

I guess I'll have to rewatch that season again. If that 2 parter with Micahel Shanks was the one with the hidden room they discovered then yea that was excellent.

Yea his character was ok but the writing just got so bad at that point that trying to fit him in didn't work that well. Plus I didn't really care for Claudia Black's character which caused too much distraction and took away time from Daniel, Carter and Teal'c.

While you have a ways to go, I thought I'd mention that the 200th episode is hysterical. It's basically a "clips" show, but not in the traditional sense. Also, don't forget the two SG1 movies that they did as well.

As many have noted here, there are a few stinkers sprinkled in in the early seasons, but overall its a terrific series. Atlantis has some interesting episodes as well. One that comes to mind is the episode where McKay and Sheppard play an RTS against one another, with some unintended consequences.

It's been said before but I'll say it again - stick with it through the fist two seasons - the ride is well worth it

False and true :p Of course - maybe thats just because I felt Vala was hot

I think he did a good job but RDA had such an amazing character and was so beloved that ANYONE replacing him was facing quite the uphill battle

Yeah, I figured as much. The closest I ever got to reality shows was Dirty Jobs and Mythbusters, which I suppose at least have some educational value. But come on, even those guys use equipment with steady-cam technology. The SGU film crew seemed to have disabled all of that functionality.

Both times I watched the "Groundhog Day" episode ("Window of Opportunity"), I was trying to stay awake through the night and had to rewind each part about 10 times because I'd keep nodding off or zoning out. :)

That's ok, just so long as you didn't fall asleep in the middle of his backswing.
