There will be for a felony conviction in the past for a dealer I imagine.

I'm not even sure about disclosure on a mental health type, they basically have a bit of restrictions on disclosure in the past like a lawyer has. I know it has supposedly been altered over time, but not sure it happens often.

Is still a bit of one of those gray areas it seems to me.

I've known several LEO's in the past that are perfectly fine with open carry actually, it makes it pretty obvious who is packing to begin with. Normally, they are not the people that are going to do some hair brained kill spree, but even then they would have eyes on them.

I understand that. But there are ways around it, ways that aren't very hard if you can do a little googling and put a little footwork in.

People that have mental health issues aren't stupid, they just have anywhere from mild issues to serious ones and could easily be brilliant. There is a strong argument to be made that a large majority of the most creative people in human history are bi-polar.

You are misinformed.

Guns are plenty in the US but you can't just go around and carry anywhere you want to even if you have a carry license to do so. There are many places that you can not bring a gun or any weapon at all such as federal buildings, courts, schools, and such. Building owners can forbid you to bring in any gun or weapon if they choose to do so. It is not free for all as you think.

That's why mass shootings usually happened in "gun free" zone.

The vast majority of mass shootings are done in "gun free zones" or places where guns aren't allowed.

Well no not really. The vast majority are done in and around private residences. They just don't get the attention ones done in public locations of random people do.

like all of the gang related shootings that no one really cares about....actually liberals care about the actual number so they can keep spouting that 9 gazillion were shot but they don't really care about the victims unless the victim is a non-white person shot by a white person.

That could very well be true, I'm not sure what the official definition of mass shooting is but I tend to think of it as 7+ people or so and all of the highly publicized ones have mostly been in "gun free" zones or places where guns aren't allowed like at the Florida nightclub. I don't really consider a drive-by shooting or something similar to be a "mass shooting" in the context that we are talking about.

Just another site that has the word "Breaking" in front of every fear and hate mongering article. Is this another one of those alternative news sites? If so, why are they spreading fear and hate just like CNN and Fox? Where is the alternative news here? Just the same BS just in a different form.

They did some mighty impressive "investigative" work to find out his evil Muslim roots. LOL.

The point though is that in the inner city everybody and their mother has a gun. It obviously hasn't done a damn thing to reduce the number of shooting. It is murder central in Milwaukee.

Ummm.. they contact the Anchorage police and recommended a psych evaluation. He was held for 72 hours and the FBI researched what they could to see if he had been in contact. As he had not been they did not deem it a terrorist threat and considered it a mental health issue. At this point it becomes a matter for the local police. The police held his gun for safe keeping, not confiscation and they actually had to keep hounding him to come get it after he was cleared by mental health professionals.

You can't fault the FBI here. They did exactly what the law requires and allows for.

People with mental illness do have higher rates of violence than people with out, but the vast majority of violence is committed by people without mental illness, and the vast majority of people with mental illness are not violent.

It is my firm belief that providing the power or expectation for mental health providers to restrict patients from owning firearms will do nothing positive. It will certainly, however, restrict many people who otherwise would seek mental health services from seeking them -- likely including those people at risk of mass violence. This would clearly be moving in the opposite direction.

In my 4.5 years as a psychiatrist, I can think of 2 whom I had some real reason to be concerned about mass violence. One had a felony already so could not legally attain guns.

There have been several patients whom I have recommended removal of guns mostly for suicide risk. In that instance, I wouldn't feel comfortable exercising my authority to remove guns even if I had it. Unless I had reason to believe someone would imminently kill themselves, it is their right to go against my advice and put themselves at risk.

Several others were just antisocial and whose other mental illness (if any) did not pose a direct threat. Those people, though, would easily obtain firearms illegally if I had a way of restricting them.
