SETI: BOINC Beta open

Cool, I joined.

What's the deal with their "Cannot find server" every other time you try to access anything?

I switched this machine (My main work station) over last night. Woke up a little while ago and noticed no progress. BOINC was running but nothing was going on.

I checked my CPU usage and it was at 4%. 🙁

Enough of that, rebooted and started S@H-1 again.

I'll let you "experts" tell me when it is time to try it again. 😉

Account Creation is Disabled 🙁

I must have missed it for now. Wanted to try out one machine on the BOINC client to see if I'll be switching over to it after SETI1 ends. Hopefully we can use a central proxy/gateway and a proggie like SetiQ is created for it.

I did notice that when you check your own USER PAGE your computer's NAME is listed. I tried to go give it a peek before writing this reply but it seems the server to that info is overloaded or down. 🙁

Anyway, let me speculate: If you give each of your computers (speaking of mini-teams and large assimilations) a unique name, you can monitor which computers are contributing and which are not. I'm guessing on this because I haven't seen any historical stats as of yet. It would really be appreciated if one of the BETA TESTERS, with multiple computers, would provide us with a link to see their stats?

The only thing missing would be the caching of work to be done but it is my understanding that BOINC will have its own caching capability.

BTW, what does this mean:

BOINC - 11/19/03 09:55:21 - Suspending computation and file transfer - user is active
BOINC - 11/19/03 09:56:17 - Already attached to [L=http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/[/i]http://]http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/

BOINC is on but doing no work?

That happened to me also. However, I rebooted the machine (actually I tripped over the power cord) and once windows restarted it began crunching.

Maybe it just needs a restart?

Upon reboot, BOINC is in my startup tray and the lines I posted previously are showing again.

When I check the Windows Task Manager, Boinc_gui.exe is one of the processes but it is using 00% of the CPU?

The GUI won't take more than 0% CPU power (hopefully!). It is the individual project exe's that will be using the CPU power (hopefully!)

Therefore, for Seti, it will be setiathome_2.06.exe that will be using the CPU power, or for AstroPulse it will be astropulse_versionnumber.exe that will be using the CPU power.

If boinc_gui is using CPU power...then something's wrong 🙂

If I click on my "Show computers" link, it just hangs and never loads anything 🙁 But, yeah, it does show each individual CPU that is running, the total credit that it has submitted, the recent credit it has recieved and IIRC it's CPU time each one has used.

It's runing using about 97% cpu on my rig.

My questions:
when does it return results?
Looking in the Work area it shows 3 units as "ready to report" - why does it not send them in, does it wait until all the work is done for all that it downloaded?
Is there a way to only do setiathome if I wanted, it downloaded 4 units of seti and 6 units of AP?

I used all of the defaults during the install. I believe AstroPulse was the default project?

I'm missing something because there is nothing running. Right now my System Idle Process is 97%.

Guess I'll turn S@H-1 back on. :Q
