The following TeAm Mates have one or more computers still pointing to the ORANGEKID.TEAMANANDTECH.COM:5001 SetiQueue

That SetiQueue has the following message emblazoned on its Home Page:

?????.THIS Q WILL BE SHUTTING DOWN MARCH 1, 2003?????..

You will have to point your computers to a different TeAm SetiQueue!

In the interest of ?spreading out? the load and the risk so as to not ?put too many of our eggs into one basket? please pick one of the lesser used SetiQueues.

Check out The Status List of Available TeAm SetiQueues where you can see which Queues are up and running and what the current LOAD may be for each of them. The Queue Address of each SetiQueue is listed there.

It is suggested that you ?SPREAD OUT?!

Do not wait until the last minute to change your HOST and PORT settings.

Remember, you can always switch to another TeAm SetiQueue if you ever feel you are not getting ?serviced? in a satisfactory manner.

So the decision you make now is not that critical but you should MOVE NOW!

I will check which stuff regarding the British Bulldog Racers are going through that Queue.

I have a feeling that quite a few clients will go unfed for a while, with not everyone checking the forums regularly.

My queue, http://teamanandtech.d2g.com:5001 is available for anyone's use :)

This will severely impact the teams production as I'm sure some of us have machines that we may not be able to get to right away or people don't check the forums. I suggest we repoint orangekid.teamanandtech.com to someone elses queue after 3/1 to pick up those clients that haven't been changed. We still move forward with dividing everyone else among multiple queues but pointing it elsewhere will give the clients the illusion they're going back to the old queue. I will host it myself (cwcenterprises.myip.org:5517) if needed, but I don't have a truly static IP although it continually renews the same one. Who has control of the teamanandtech domain?

I believe Brad (bphantom) does.

I am willing for that to be pointed to my DNS2Go account, which can use an external DNS name, just configure it for D2G's DNS servers. My queue is also on the same port, which will make it a little easier :)

This may answer some of the questions that have been posed. The following are exchanges between OrangeKid and myself.

Subject: SetiQueue

Hi Don,

SB: It appears the "seti.teamanandtech.com" Q has be redirected to "smokeball.dns2go.com" and I've gotten a hand full of USERS.

OK: Had that done right away.bphantom takes care of all the 'teamanadtech' URL's

SB: I just noticed that you have recently reinstalled? "orangekid.teamanandtech.com". Are you going to redirect that Q also?

OK: 'orangekid' will stay with me........will still do the sight and stats

SB: Your Q has the following message, "THIS Q WILL BE SHUTTING DOWN MARCH 1, 2003"

SB: Should all USERS of the http://www.orangekid.teamanandtech.com:5001/default.htm that has the above notation re-address their machines to other TeAm SetiQueues on an individual basis?

OK: That is what they will have to do as there will no longer be a Q running here
OK: All I will continue to run is http://www.orangekid.teamanandtech.com

SB: On my end I have not been able to redirect Port 5001 to Port 5517. So to solve the problem I installed a 2nd iteration of SetiQueue http://www.smokeball.dns2go.com:5001/queues.htm using Port 5001.

OK: probably the best temporary solution, till people can change their clients port

The SetiQueue "seti.teamanandtech.com:5001" has already been redirected to "smokeball.dns2go.com:5001". So far only 7 Users have used that queue.

The SetiQueue "orangekid.teamanandtech.com:5001" will NOT be redirected. It will just cease to operate on March 1, 2003.

There are many USERS that need to make the switch ASAP. I will ask OK for the list (or compile it myself) of the USERS who have failed to change their settings and will contact them via e-mail informing them of the situation. Hopefully that will not be too many. ;)

Hmm, I guess I need to call my parents and see if my mom can get SETIDriver changed over without breaking something. :)

Folks, this is a serious problem. Not one new USER has been added to the TeAm Qs.

I feel that there are many people who have followed our instructions in the past, set it up with OK's queue, and have not checked back on the forums.

Maybe there is some way that OK could forward requests on port 5001 to another IP address etc? I am not sure if/how that's possible, but it may be able to allievate the problem for a while.

No No, I was not referring to SoulAssassin at all. As a matter of fact he and I have been exchanging PMs about the current situation and he is being most helpful. ;)

[Edit]: the above was a response to titanmiller's post thinking I was upset with Soul Assassin. :) Ha LOL

I'm referring to the fact that not one USER of OrangeKid's Q has moved to one of the TeAm Qs. :Q

We are going to end up with many, many lost WUs and machines if this is not taken care of by the machine Users.

Ok, I wasn't sure if you were talking about that or about users moving to another Q.:p

I was a user of OrangeKids and I simply set my seti drivers to no proxy for now.
Might set up my own Q for personal use but right now I have about 240 WU's cached and don't need to worry about it personally.

You are right that there are those out there who will have trouble when the old Q dies.
The simplest answer would be for his port 5001 to get redirected but even if it could be done that wouldn't solve the long term problem.
So what needs to happen IMHO is for every user of the proxy to be contacted and told about the change and given the info needed to make the change on their end. That along with a sticky at the top of the forum to let everyone know about the problem up at the top.

I have just ICQed Darkone with a link to this thread ,if he hasn't sorted it soon I'll tell him when I next see/speak to him

AVG=Binky on the forums ,haven't seen him in ages but I believe he still lurks occasionally (you could check his profile)
Ben Davis should of seen this ,he's back around here & crunching in force! ,his forum name is Ben98sentraSE (I think!:eek:)
Darkmajiq has no excuse for not seeing this;) (maybe a remote ship?)
I've contacted Office Boy & Sukhoi on ICQ about this

Lots of other names on here who are regular posters!

Unfortunately I don't believe there's a way to do it on a port by port basis. If someone knows a way, please suggest it. But my only solution would be to point orangekid.teamanandtech.com to another location.

Yeah, I don't think there's a way to redirect a port to another machine - but if someone else knows how I'm all ears!

:( will be losing my contribution to the team then i'm afraid... I have no control over the machines still running SETI at my old work, so I cant change the proxy settings :(

Why not try have the person who runs teamanandtech.com point the DNS name at another queue thats running on port 5001 that way people who might have the same problem as me, or have a lot of machines to change can keep contributing to the team ??

{edit} so i didn't read the posts above first before replying ;)

BTW.. it IS possible to redirect ports from one machine to another using the xinetd daemon in Linux...

The entry for xinetd used is:

service setiq
{
port = 5001
bind = x.x.x.x <where x.x.x.x = your internet facing IP>
socket_type = stream
protocol = tcp
user = root
redirect = x.x.x.x yyyy <where x.x.x.x = the machine that you want requests to go to and yyyy = the port that the other machines queue is on>
type = UNLISTED
wait = no
}

although this will work, I suspect that the downside will be that all WUs uploaded to the queue will show as coming from the redirecting machine and not the real ip of the client which may screw up stats ?!??!!? I dunno.. been a while since i looked at SQ and cant really remember how it worked..

If you don't use xinetd, port redirection with Linux can also be done with iptables. Put this in your boot script:

iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -d internet IP --dport port to listen to -j DNAT --to-destination lan ip:port of server

Hey guys... I've decided that I can take over for OK! I am running jsetidoor on m FreeBSD machine on my co-located server (OC3).

I'm just working on running it as a no access type user, and getting a script going that will automate the startup of the program.

I'm going to bed... We can discuss how to do it tommorrow evening. I got a dedicated IP (66.51.174.166), but I just need to be able
to start the darn thing without me logged in (using nohup doesn't work). I'll use port 5001, so you can just change the DNS to point
to me. I will eventually need a list of all the E-mail logins that are used though... but we can get to that when we get there :)
