You are confused. I think you need re-read the thread. Someone posted 538's opinion on Bernies chances and used that as evidence that Hillary was going to win anyway.

It's BS. As you correctly point out, even if 538 "did the math" and predicted Hillary as the likely winner, that doesn't mean she would have won. It's useless to bring up. Their abysmal failure at predicting the 2016 election is a perfect example.

And yes, they did fail. A prediction is a binary choice. Saying X has 66% chance of winning isn't a prediction, it's just a measure of how confident they were in their prediction. And despite that confidence, they were wrong.

I agree this is very fishy. The edit was done without an asterisk, meaning it could only have occurred from a reddit admin.

The only possible kosher explanation I can think of is maybe they edited out information at the request of proven family members.

But even that seems suspect, as the subject of an unsolved murder investigation isn't it illegal to tamper with potential evidence, even if a family member requests it?
