I've been debating on whether or not to post before and after shots of my wife - this can be a cruel forum sometimes. She looks amazing especially considering where she started off at, and I'm so proud of her for her determination. Despite the difficulties women have in losing the peripheral fat (compared to men) and the other life issues she faces daily, she just keeps plugging away. I derive a lot of my own motivation from her.

if you love her don't she'll be ripped to shreds here,

nonsense.

That's what I was thinking, too. She's my life.

Great work! That is a fantastic achievement!

I dropped about 50 pounds over 90 days in 2004. It has been a pretty much constant struggle to keep it off since then, although I have been mostly successful. Friendly words of advice: do not relax when you reach your goal weight. Most diet plans spend 95% of their verbage discussing the weight loss portion of the diet. IMO the maintenance phase is both more important and more difficult. It was relatively easy for me to go without tasty foods when I could see the pounds dropping off, but it's a lot harder when you are going through nearly the same amount of effort to maintain the status quo. For me, anyway, the diet is a permanent fixture in my life.

Thanks for all the support. If it weren't for support I got like this IRL I'd not have had the success I have enjoyed.

Congratulations; I am sorta in the same situation. Because of my job and its strange hours and all the traveling I did, I was eating basically whatever I could find because I was always on the go. Fast food and junk catch up quickly. The hardest part was starting the work out and diet and sticking with it. Getting through the first two weeks was the tough part, after that it was smooth sailing.

I don't remember this at all. If only the search button worked I'd refresh my memory...

Thanks for the nice comments guys.
I guess there might be a problem with the way my living room is decorated... It's looks like rudder's grandma's house. :( I'll admit that my wife and I aren't trendy urbanites, but I thought we were modern suburbanites at least.

I agree. But over the past 7 months, I've grown accustomed to not eating fast foods or cakes/candies/etc. I've found good things to replace them: fruit, yogurt, stuff like that. If I need a quick burst of calories, I grab a piece of raisin bread, a light Yoplait yogurt, and an apple. I'm good to go for a few hours then. And that kind of stuff you can find in airport terminals and convenience stores with no problem.

Ok, so my wife took my fatbody measurements tonight and I was really pleased with the results.

Neck:
April 30 - 18.5"
July 13 - 16.5"

Manboobs:
April 30 - 48"
July 13 - 44"

Cheeseburgers (lovehandles):
April 30 - 43.5"
July 13 - 39"

Hips:
April 30 - 40.5"
July 13 - 38"

I only wish I'd taken readings on my fatness when I first started back in January, I'd love to know how many inches I've lost this year total. Or even better, how many I've lost since Jan. 2005.

Hi Jeff,

I am fat. I have been fat as a child and I have been thin as an adult and then fat again.'

This is an excellent and motivating thread. I am ready to lose some tonnage again.

Ready for this.

I was 333 lbs.
I lost 148 lbs.
I was 185 lbs at my goal on Weight watchers. I felt amazing, kind of like a gazelle.
I gained 140 lbs and feel like shi:T
I am 325 lbs
I am going back to WW but....... I am going to run this time. Couch to 5k it is :)

Yes it is insane but... overeating is a disease that many who don't have will never understand.

Congrats to you my friend, all I can suggest to you is that you excercise.

My father is now 70 and has had a quad bypass. I don't want that so I am going to reform and start excercising now!!

Take care and good luck keeping that weight off. I know how hard it is ;)

Dave

Whoah, Dave, that's a real rollercoaster ride you've been on!! :Q How did it happen for you to fall after getting down to 185lbs? I need to know what signs to watch out for so that I can stave off that eventuality.

Exercise I do. 30 minutes of intense cardio on my stationary bike (3/4 scale difficulty with an average of 24mph) preceded by calisthenics (pushups and true crunches). This is all I have time for on my workdays, luckily it's worked thusfar for me.

Have y'all seen this site? I use many of their resources daily, it's a nice little site, though it is geared more towards women than men.

I used to have longer hair, but my hair is SOOOO thick and now I live in Texas and I work in a power plant where I have to wear a hard hat when out of doors. If you had to deal with that you'd have damn short hair too. :p

My mate has lost 14kg ~ 31lbs :). He use to weigh 124kg now he is at 110kg. But to be fair at 124kg he would be stronger then 99% of the guys you will meet. Strong guy. Now he is stronger, faster and a more healtheir weight. He can still drop 15kg of fat and be lean at 94kg :).

He ate better and picked up olympic lifting again. He does no cardio but trains hard and smart in the gym.

Awesome.

Well, I may as well put an update up since the thread was bumped. Today I weighed in at 178 pounds and I feel and look better than I have in 22 years. My family can't believe how I look these days. I run 10 miles and bike 50 miles every week, and that number will go up as my triathlon training progresses.

I'll put up new pics when I have some done, I am cameraphobic and rarely appear in front of a lens. :p

I'm currently battling the opposite problem. In June, I was a stick--5'10" and 125 pounds. Doing bodyweight exercises added to walking biking over the summer, I got up to some 138 by the beginning of September. Now, I've taken up Thai boxing, and am doing more serious weight lifting/jump roping and bodyweight (situps, pushups) and I've started eating better: much more protein, much less high GI carbs, and almost no dessert. Not only do I feel much better, I've put on 5 pounds in 3.5 weeks. :D
Note: For me, cutting the sweet tooth was hard, but once I did it, I don't even want dessert anymore, most of the time.

I had a problem with the sweet tooth thing too sponge. For me the ideal replacements were dried fruit and lowfat yogurt. I don't even miss cake/ice cream/candybars/etc.

I wonder what it's like to be on your side of the fence? What was your eating and exercise habit like before you started your program?
