Did you drink (beer/wine) before you lost the weight, and if so do you still drink now? I'm almost in the same shape as you were in, 240lbs, 6'1" and I really need to get off my fat ass, but the drinking part will be hard. There's nothing like a cold beer after work to relax you. I'm not an alcoholic...quit looking at me like that, I can stop anytime ;)

Oh, and BTW, great job man!

By his plan, he could drink, he'd just have to count the calories from the beer into his daily allowance.

Congradulations dude! That's a very impressive haul, and you're doing it right.

Nothing like some good cardio to get pounds to drop. I used to weigh in around 260, and I took a wieght training class my Junior year of HS to try and curb it. I ended up losing 45lbs, and I've kept most of it off since then. I've been fluxing around 215-220 for the past jeez, almost 3 years now. I just did alot of light lifting, and used the exersize bike daily until someone broke it :(

I'm getting back on a kick to lose weight again now. I've lost 8 more pounds and 3 inches off my large belly (I'm only about 5 foot 7, those only body fat guestomaters put me at 35% body fat or so :( ) which is a promising start. I've been doing light exersize (situps, pushups, TONS of reps on different exersizes using no more than 50lbs or so) and changing up my diet. I probably still am taking in the same ammount of calories, but I'm eating more frequently. Like within 30minutes or so of waking up I have something to eat, (this is usually between 7-9am, depending on my schedule for work) and have something 4 hours later, 4 hours after that, and dinner around 8pm. Eating small things, like a sandwhich, a good protien bar and a bottle of water, ect.

In any case, the little post about me was to possibly give you some possible ideas. Keep up the good work :)

I don't really drink. I bought a 6er of Aspen Edge for New Years Eve and there are still 5 of them left in the fridge if that tells you anything. But I do like the occassional beverage and there'd be no problem with one or two ultra light beers after work, as long as you account for the calories as Injury stated.

My liquid intake habits took a radical turn when I started up this year. I now get almost a gallon of fluid a day with the lion's share being straight water. I drink a bottle or two of diet flavored water or diet lipton green tea every day for a "treat", they taste so good. And my coffee didn't suffer either. We found some Coffee Mate fat/sugar free french vanilla creamer that is only 15 calories per tablespoon, and that stuff is awesome - a gift from the gods even. :D

Good luck man, it's worth the pain believe me.

Yep, cardio is where it's at. Unfortunately for me my work schedule keeps me from a routine exercise schedule most of the time. But I do get enormous calorie burns from my day to day activities at work. As an operator/I&C guy/PC systems admin/controls engineer I am constantly running from one place to the next trying to keep the plant running. I might have an hour and a half stationary out of the 12 hours I'm on shift, but when I'm moving it's grueling. I wear 5 pounds of clothing/shoes and then another 5 pounds in tools/radios/PPE/etc... I'll tell you straight up, running to the top of the HRSG to get a valve working PRONTO is a cardio workout. If the plant trips 'cuz you dawdled then you just inherited a world of shiat.

But I'd say your initial progress is great and it seems like what you're already doing is working out for you. Losing inches is good feeling isn't it? :) One dietary trick you might try is to eat even more frequently, just small bits at a time. I eat 5 or 6 times a day and it goes something like this:

1. On the way to work I eat a small carb loaded breakfast, raisin bread usually.

2. At about 9am I eat a piece of fruit.

3. Lunchtime - I eat about a 400 calorie lunch. Leftovers if I have some, a frozen lean cuisine of some kind otherwise. I also have a yoplait light yogurt for a treat. The calcium is good.

4. At about 3pm I eat another piece of fruit.

5. When I get home from work I eat dinner. It's about as many calories as lunch but I don't eat a yogurt I eat extra veggies.

6. A small snack, maybe a diet fudgesicle or somesuch.

When I work nights the schedule is flipped. I don't when I get home in the morning, I go straight to bed after drinking a pint of water.

The reasoning behind this is that it keeps your metabolism peaking all day long for a more efficient combustion of fat. And it works. I feel more energetic all day long than I ever used to.

Keep up the good work mate, what you're doing is working for you.

Simply amazing Jeff, have you run into anyone that hasn't seen your progression that didn't recognize you yet?

No, but people have been taken aback for sure. It's fun to watch their reaction. :D

Thanks man.

I've been debating on whether or not to post before and after shots of my wife - this can be a cruel forum sometimes. She looks amazing especially considering where she started off at, and I'm so proud of her for her determination. Despite the difficulties women have in losing the peripheral fat (compared to men) and the other life issues she faces daily, she just keeps plugging away. I derive a lot of my own motivation from her.

If you do, don't do a facial shot (sounds bad I know ;) ). Just a shot from the neck down.
