My hatred of Duke is purely a rivalry thing (UMD grad), and I'm sure most other Duke-haters are rivals as well. Anytime you have a consistently strong program (like Duke, or the Yankees, or the Lakers), regardless of the sport, everyone is going to be gunning for your team. That's why so many people love to hate Duke. They are ALWAYS the team to beat, year in and year out.

That said, I have nothing but respect for Coach K. He is one of the most stand-up coaches in all of sports.

interesting twisting of stats.

only 7 Duke bballers have left early for the NBA draft in the history of the program. this is quite different from graduation rate, where Duke scores a not-so-impressive 68%.

Here is a post at another forum I frequent related to the hatred of Duke. I think it sums it up nicely. You can also find a lot of good stuff on thetruthaboutduke.com.

There isn't anything more gay (Not that there's anything wrong with that) than the Duke geeks jumping up and down during the game, it isn't cool, it's gay. The cheers are even gayer after learning that nothing is spontaneous about them or their fans. Cheer sheets? Come on you can't be serious, and it isn't even funny or clever. They have geeks who lead the cheers and make sure you do the right ones at the right time. They actually get mad at the frosh because they often screw it up. They also have a line leader outside Cameron to make sure the fans go inside in an orderly fashion and get the wrist bands for waiting in line to get in! The students consider it an honor to be chosen line leader! My friend's daughter who is in kindergarten gets to be a line leader at her school, it is an honor in kindergarten, not college!

Go to thetruthaboutduke.com and read some of the lame stuff they chant or do. I don't know who wrote it but a writer once said something like" Duke fans are geeks who couldn't get into Yale". But the gayest of all has to be when they wrote to Coach K telling him to not go to the Lakers and the jack off that wrote he came to Duke because since he wasn't good enough to play at least he could still be part of the team by cheering. And please stay as you are our Coach, not just the basketball team's but all of the students!". I want to puke just hearing that crap!

True, I live right in the middle of the whole Duke - UNC - NC State - Wake Forrest gang so I respect them all on varying levels...

But the hate for Duke seems outrageous:confused:

well...I live in Michigan, so I guess its natural.

Some what off topic, wtf was up with the MSU-UK game! 12.7 secs that lasted 20minutes!
