alright alright. that blank post, well it did not go through because i logged in and did not realize that i also had to type my reply while i was logging in (i'm new to this forum, and most forums make you log in first.. as you can see i dont have fifty thousand million posts), then for my profile being hidden and not being able to accept private messages... is this in this forum?, how am i supposed to know if its hidden or i'm in stealth mode or whatever you think it is. if you think its some sort of scam, lol fine, but i dont know how you can turn this product into scam... maybe spam?, if you think i can spam with it, no i'm already having enough trouble managing the resources it has and that would just kill it, but even if it could, wouldent it make a lot more sence if there was a line of advertizement on the top of the im or in its profile? this way i can keep people using it and everyone is happy?... ms is also non profit, hence the .org url. Even the webhosting of messageserver.org is donated, it mostly runs off of people having ecess resources and are willing to donate some.
i'm just a programer that wanted to contribute something to the community, look at messageservers profile, you dont have to im it or anything if your scared of it, but you will find that i make my information publicly available, email, sn, voicemail/fax, and webpage. if this were a scam, i dont think i would do that. also ffm said "You haven't answered people's questions and have been quite suspicious." i'm sorry if i missed something but what have i not answered?

thanks to everyone sticking up for me. 🙂

Okay, you're smart enough to make a chatterbox, but you're not smart enough to freaking pay attention when you're filling out a simple sign-up form?

It all comes out to cheap excuses, too. Like I said before, bullsh|t.

CHILL THE FVCK OUT Nik. If you take a look this is a FREE SERVICE. Are you required to use it? No. Stop your bitchin if you don't like the idea. What happens in the WORST case. He spams you. If that happens then come back and bitch. Otherwise you have NO reason to think something bad about this FREE service. He is most likely just a person with some time on his hand so made something useful. I think it is great. Do I plan on using his service? No, because I have no use for it since I use email for such things.

I have joined SO MANY forums that I rarely read all the options when signing up.

By default, profile and private messages are ENABLED, so he KNOWINGLY disabled those options. Just because you don't give a flying fark and are lighthearted about everything doesn't negate my bad feeling about this guy.

seriously, I wish I had the programming skills to make up neat little progs like this. It logs your IM name, big deal. Yah, I get a million prono ads through my ICQ but IM'ing offline feature is a nice little perk if you just want to send someone a quick message.

OMG RUN FOR COVER. OUR GOD THAT WATCHES OVER US NIK HAS A BAD FEELING. Grow up man. People can take care of themselves and until he does something bad give him a break. So what if he disabled PMs and email.

Oh yeah I am SO STUPID for skipping the same options that I can change later. It isn't like I can't change options later. That is what the profile is for.

AND ACTUALLY Nik go take a look at the sign up page. YOU HAVE TO PUT CHECK MARKS TO ENABLE YOUR PROFILE TO BE VISIBLE. On top of that you have to check the box for letting people view your email. Don't run your mouth with BS when you are wrong.

EDIT: I couldn't check PMs because I wasn't going to sign up for another account BUT if I remember correctly you do have to go back and turn PMs on after you sign up because they are not on by default.

When I joined PMs were definately disabled by default. But that was some time ago. TazX2k, you referred to yourself as "we" back when you said "we know how many unique people used it. this is so we can keep track of how many new people are using it." Who is the "we"?

Hey Nik take a lesson here. UNCjigga is being civil about asking his questions. I have no problem with that. Asking questions is good for people to decide on if they are going to use the service. If more people could be understanding and not jump to conclusions WITHOUT having all the facts(or making up crap).

I would just like to preemptively clear my name from the upcoming "Who Peed in Nik's Cornflakes?" discussion.

lol, i can't believe people are making such a hissyfit over this program. i remember icq had this feature and had always wished aim had it as well. gj!

as for the spam, i noticed some of you leave your e-mail address in your profile. wouldn't that be an easier way to spam ya? geez, some people can be so paranoid 😛 and if i remember correctly, aim has a feature where you can block all users that aren't on your buddy list. problem solved. that is if he is even going to send aim spam which i've never even heard of or gotten. 😛

Yes, "CHILL THE FSCK OUT" is being civil.

daaamn, people are harsh!

Taz, I hope you don't dissapear on account of the flaming- I think its just that people are a little weary of things that are just...nice, for no reason at all. 😕

thanks for letting us know! 🙂

GJ. I think it's cool as hell that you wrote this just for the hell of it. (E.G.-No Profit.)

I'm also trying to write my own program that I posted a thread about yesterday. (KeyserSoze's Program Idea)

Anyways, I'll check it out when I get home. And don't worry about the other idiots that are flaming you. I think CONSTRUCTIVE questions are ok, but when they start criticizing and making stupid comments....their own ignorance comes through.

Good job.

KeyserSoze

someone asked how we can see how many people are using it... well just type 'stats' to messageserver and it will reply with, well off of its stats.

oh someone also said that they don't like messageserver because people can use it to spam (although there is a limit to the number of pending queues per sn).... we'll i found a fix for that, even if it was used for spam and you received one spam then another... well you can always block messageserver, and sure you cannot use it, but then again you never wanted to use it because you were scared of getting spammed... so it works out for all of us right? btw not to advertise or anything because i know a small reccomendation turns into a bunch people screaming "ADVERTISEMENT!", seriously guys, but for anyone who is sick of spam in their email check out www.endjunk.com it really works to stop spam.

oh yeah and i guess i am advertising messageserver, i made it, i worked hard on it, and i think everyone should know about it because well some people might actually like it.

THIS IS A BUMP... what are you gonna do, kick me? 😉

Get a real IM client like ICQ and stfu.

since most people do not use icq it is not practical. same debate over windows and *nix, its just not practical.

I dont understand why people use AIM.

It's called marketing. ICQ was pretty much the standard back in 1997 when I first started using it. Then AOL started pushing the standalone AIM and since that's what everyone knew, that's what everyone started to use. Despite being technically superior, in much the same way that VHS won out over BetaMAX, AIM was able to overtake ICQ.

Soon enough, I knew two kinds of people:
People who used AIM
People who used AIM and ICQ together.

Being tired of maintaining two programs and two contact lists, I gave up on ICQ like so many others, continue to scratch my head at why AOL bought Mirabilis but did nothing to incorporate ICQs features into AIM.

With all the people that have multiple accounts on both networks, it's hard to come up with a metric. While ICQ may have more "registered accounts" or what have you, I'm wont to believe that it gets more traffic. Unless you count spam.
