Incorrect, that described the single amendment under discussion.

The poll should have broken that question up like this to be an actual neutral question.

"Do you favor background checks for anyone purchasing a gun online?"

"Are you aware that online gun purchase transactions already require a background check by law?"

"Do you favor background checks between any two private citizens conducting a transaction over a gun?"

"Would you favor a law that forces private citizens to pay for a background check on a firearm transaction or would just higher accountability through a bill of sale record keeping be sufficient to curb crime?"

There are so many ways to lead those questions and get completely different results. As for your accuracy, the gun bills didn't pass. Guess that another spit in the eye on how accurate these things are.

No. It was taking two different types of transactions and trying to conflate them to confuse the issue. The amendment is to require background checks on private sales. The question was worded to make it seem like online transactions and gunshow sales are private sales that are unregulated. Both of which are wrong statements. The question was poorly worded. It was designed to confuse and piggy back upon media buzzwords lately that have inspired fear among people that don't know the truth for themselves. Nor are gunshow sales the same thing as online sales. Or are you trying to say that they are?

The poll is nonsensical if you want to put it that way.

A poll is a statistical sample that is only as good as the sample size, how the data is collected, and the type of data. 1,004 American is too small a sample size to represent 350+ diverse Americans in the country. The questions that were asked were loaded, and skewed to generate data of a certain type. The data was further weighted in a way not described in the polling method. That all seems like absolute crap to me.

1000 is plenty provided you're sampling a randomized cross-section. That is how polling is generally done. You'll need to explain how it wasn't done that way here. As for question wording, I showed you the question. It was worded neutrally. And even if there were some methodological errors, 86% is a pretty high number. The errors would have to be tremendous to even bring it down to 70%.

You're reminding me of the righties like Buckshot who kept challenging the polls as favoring Obama only to discover that not only did Obama win but the polls actually slightly over-favored Romney.

You can't just dismiss polls because they show you in the minority. I'm in the minority on several issues and I'm entirely comfortable with it. Sounds like you find it hard to believe that most people would actually disagree with you which is pretty arrogant.

It's good to know that you guys aren't biased in the least.

Personally, I think the assault weapons ban was a useless feel good bit of legislation and that was never expected to pass but I think background checks for all gun purchases is reasonable.

I'm good actually. My family is able to defend themselves as am I.

This is our natural right and no government can take that away.

We had someone in Congress who was gunned down and survived it. This person is a gun owner themself. They support this. Both of those who sponsored this bill have A ratings from the NRA. Wayne LaPierre, CEO of the fucking NRA supports this by his own words just a few years ago. But people started to believe the NRA lies. And then of course you have people like spidey and Incorruptible who are frankly more crazy than anyone that be blocked by a background check who are just louder than the sane peoples of the world.

and i wonder how much it would take people to realize that they are vulnerable all the time.

go to any mall or park during a major holiday. field day for any type of weapon. hell, go to a walmart on the weekend.

the fact of the matter is that our freedom exposes us. we have choice, and we let other people choose as well. every once in a while, someone chooses to do great evil. there is practically nothing you can do to stop it.

go ahead, try to stop human choice. humanity is chaos. you will never succeed.

in my opinion, that's the truth of the matter. i would have hopped on a plane the day after 9/11 without skipping a beat. i'd head up to boston right now without hesitation. i didn't walk in zig-zags when the DC sniper was around.

why? because these events are essentially anomalies. your chances of dying or being injured in a million other ways are far greater.

am i saying we should do nothing? no. i'm saying we should think absolutely, 100% rationally about the legislation people are proposing and weighing the restriction on fundamental rights against saving a handful of people. yes, handful. 100 vs 8,000. you tell me which is greater.

I'm posting from a public library right now, on a college campus. Lot of people, unsuspecting, sitting at desks absorbed in their work, in an open area. Prime target for a mass shooting. No real readily available cover, supposed I could hide under the desk. 😛

And yet I'm comfortable enough that I've taken my shoes off and am wearing nothing more than slippery socks which would very much hinder my running anywhere.

I love it when us gun owerns are called paranoid, and yet it's the gun grabbers crying about how unsafe they feel buying groceries. 😛

At the end of the day gun owners vote, and gun victims vote. The former vastly outnumber the latter.

As a gallup poll from two days ago shows, the vast majority of Americans have bigger fish to fry.
