[Semiaccurate] GK104/Kepler/GTX680 Next Week?

A few days ago I spoke to an nvda employee in arch (so not in marketing or logistics so he may be wrong about exact date), but he said the launch date would be in 2 weeks. He did not say if it was a paper launch though.

If it's GTX680 then the rumor of being 45-50% faster than GTX580 is true. Based on rumors, again, they have two GK104 so a GTX670 is also predictable. 680 better than the 7970 and 670 better than the 7950. Do you think they will price them higher?

Err, no. GK110 is supposed to be 50% faster than GF110. The GTX 680 will not be 50% faster than the GTX 580 because the GTX 680's engineering goal is to be 50-65% faster than the GTX 560 Ti since GK104 is the successor to GF114.

GK104 will be very lucky to be more than 10% faster than Tahiti XT. Tahiti XT is 60% faster than GF114, so looking at this from an engineering point of view you'd have to be very optimistic to think GK104 will be anything more than just slightly faster than Tahiti XT. If I'm honest, I'll put the GTX 680 at being anything from 10% slower to 10% faster than the HD 7970.

We'll have to see how much value NVIDIA brings to the table, because in performance they definitely won't wipe the floor with the HD 7970.

Nah, I meant what I said. Nvidia cards retail for more than AMD cards of similar performance. Additionally, one of the things I noticed while shopping around for a video card a few weeks ago were the prices for both brands, used. Nvidia cards hold their value a lot better than AMD cards. People willingly pay more for them. They are worth more.

Their worthy valueable flagship pcb GTX590 exploded when you over volted it until they put tighter forced TDP throttling and OCP into the drivers. Where is the value? In the benchmarks and game support for sure. Remember that those valuable bumpgate fcbga require an oven for longevity, so include the cost of the oven too :0. Can't remember any "I baked my ati card" threads.

Check this out... it has the same "worth" as the inside of a TI-85.

edit: for those wondering, what you are seeing here is the lowest number of cheapest possible fets, mosfets, power ics, inductors and caps they could put on their board. They are the of the lowest quality, and cheapest price, in fewest quantitiy. This is how they design their "worthy" top of the line product. You are looking at a 1996 KIA chassis with two Dodge Viper RT HEMI V10 engines in it.

There are many leaks indicating GK104 around 7950 in performance. Tons of leaks saying this. Far more than anything Kyle may have said, and he mentioned only canned benchmarks at that. I'm fairly certain that a 256 bit memory bus GK104, there's no way that it is 50% higher.

At this point, I would prefer a paper launch. Nvidia has done a tremendous job keeping verifiable specs and performance figures from leaking, so paper launching 1-3 weeks ahead of product availability would be great given the the security around GK104.

None of Chrysler's engines are true hemis anymore, their heads don't have hemispheres like the old ones.

Sorry the car analogy threw you off. Car analogies get scrutiny here, even if they are worded correctly. You likely don't see the point of the post. Yes I mistakenly combined Viper RT/10 V10 engine moniker with Chrysler's remake of the Hemi Cuda's engine as the modern HEMI moniker. But i was really going for emphasis on the size of the gpu and low spec quality of the pcb. Just call it the 16 cylinder bugatti engine. (hope that's what it's called)

The point is the amperage and quality of output of the VRM.

Heheh~ so true. I put a lot more value in NVCP over CCC anyway, so that really makes up for poor hardware. Plus when ASUS, Giga and MSI step in to build their own designs instead of the in-house Nvidia reference crap, it kinda negates the low-spec reference design anyway.

Regardless of how we feel about it, doing so would make sense for nVidia. If the results look good, it will keep people from buying AMD cards and its not as though most of nVidia's older products are going to be flying off store shelves, even if they were to withhold information about better products. With the 7870 announcement, there's not a lot of reason to get a 570 or a 580 anymore.

You are right, maybe the Chinese fed Kyle with wrong info and I don't believe GK104 will wipe the floor with Tahiti XT but I really find it hard to believe that NV will launch card that is called GTX680 and is slower than the 7970. 5-10% across the board better at stock and they will claim the crown.

We will find out soon as other reviewer confirmed he'll fly to San Francisco for an NV briefing. I don't think it's about Tegra 3...

There have been so many rumors about kepler and the 104 that many of them end up contradicting each other. Where AMD's pre-launch was relatively quiet and unassuming, nVidia's Kepler is absolutely filled with rumors and crap. Frankly, until we have solid clues from reputable reviewers I'm not holding my breath. There hasn't even been an engineering sample and all we've gotten was a shot of the PCB yet people are claiming they've got performance estimates... ffs, they can't even nail down a concrete release date yet.
