I remember my first online sale was to someone in Canada. It was 1998 and I sold him "Cruisin' USA" for N64 for $7... of course I didn't put things together and realized:
A) Shipping costs suck. It cost about $5 to send it, bringing my profit to $2
B) The buyer was an idiot and paid in Canadian dollars. Bringing my actual profit to about -$1.00
C) Banks charge a fee to cash Canadian money orders here in the states... and that cashing a $7 MO would actually take about 2 weeks and yeild about $2, but that I had to take it to a main office to do that... bringing my profit to -$12 (-$7 for the game, -$5 for shipping. +$0 for the money order I ripped up and threw away.)
Pwned. My $12 lesson was that it's easier to just not send things over the border unless the buyer chooses to take on all responsibilities for customs, shipping charges, and will pay in $US. My advice is if you want to trade over borders, don't find these sorts of things out on an expensive item.
