I just finished reading that an hour ago. I test drove an s4 (has the same motor) and it had some serious go.

but lol @ "options on test vehicle"

the a6 they tested was 10k more than the 535 that was tested too

Hmm. Looks like a winner, and a massive improvement, so I'd think it'd help sales a lot.

On the other hand, it's kinda disheartening that the $70k A6 is slower in every measurement than the new Mustang V6. Acceleration, braking, handling, bleh. Although nobody on any planet would cross-shop the two.

I don't think performance-oriented buyers look at the regular 5 series or A6 though.

They also need more dealers and their dealers need to keep vehicles in stock that people want to buy instead of 1 autotragic, optioned to the gills version and a bunch of crap SUV's that no one wants.

I'm talking to you Audi of Jacksonville/Tampa.

"Although we matched the cylinder counts and transmissions on these midsize luxury sedans, our 2011 BMW 535i test car costs $60,225, while our 2012 Audi A6 3.0 TFSI Quattro comes in at $71,330. How do we live with ourselves? Simple math. The base prices on these sedans are within $300 of each other, but this particular 535i is an austerity special. It has the Sport and Dynamic Handling packages and à la carte Dakota leather, but no Premium package, no navigation system, not even an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
If you option the 2011 BMW 535i up to the level of our A6 tester (Prestige, Sport and Innovation packages, plus the Bang & Olufsen philharmonic), it finally arrives at $71,920, a difference of $590."

Fail.

stupid German naming nonsense. v6t = supercharged. I asked the sales guy at the Audi dealership wtf was up with it, and he just shrugged his shoulders and said "Germans."

The V6T has oil consumption & carbon build up issues?

Audi/VW has major problems with their DirectInjection motors right now.

Like losing more than 10% of the rated power in less than 10-20k and having to pull the intake off to clean it out.

I have not heard of a fix, other then spending a lot of money to get the car back to where it should be.

It's a direct injection problem so the new V6 will suffer from the affects, it's too new to tell how bad, but now that the cat's out of the bag many Audi owners are discovering the reasons their cars feel less powerful.

Forced induction seems to slow it, but the 2.0T still suffers from it.

It's a serious problem that most don't know about. Stuff like ACE IV and the like is supposedly a solution, but I haven't read enough yet on that.

Audi/VW have more issues than just that - the sensors and coils are all going bad on their cars. Check out truedelta.com. They need to spend a few dollars less on their interiors and buy some quality electronics.

So Ford/GM/Hyundai/BMW/etc have the same issues?

Do Porsche share the same DI system as Audi?

Pretty sure their flat six engines were developed independently..but the Panamara and Cayenne hybrids both use this exact "thupercharged" engine that was developed by Audi.

I don't think its the injection system itself but the engine design.

Seems more european cars are having this issue then US/Asia cars.
But I have not heard much about issues with Porsche. Maybe the boxer motor design helps control this?

Does this have to do with carbon buildup cos the DI design effectively prevents fresh charge from clearing carbon from the intake valves?

Basically every DI engine can get carbon buildup. Friend had a mazdaspeed6 and it had problems with it
