The enumerated G_d-given right is the right to bear arms, the right to be secure in one's person, family and home against those who wish you harm - especially government. We most of us are neither Muslims nor Amish, so we have no need to freeze technology at any particular point to stay in G-d's good graces.

wtf? There's so much wrong here I don't know where to start. The secret service is investigating this. They are not part of the Department of Justice, and Eric Holder has zero say in what they do.

Secondly, the Black Panthers were threatening a citizen, not the president. Why would the attorney general personally be involved in every threat against a citizen? That's just nonsensical.

Why should that be a surprise? It's the job of the Secret Service to protect the POTUS from assassination. In that regard, they can let a lot of stuff slide if they want, or err on the side of being hyper-vigilant. It shouldn't surprise anyone that they choose be be overly vigilant. Consider what happens if someone makes belligerent public statements like Nugent's then the 1 in 10,000 off chance happens - he kills the POTUS, or injuries him. But the Secret Service knew about the statements and did nothing. It wouldn't be the first time that a tragedy occurs and those tasked with preventing it are blamed because they ignored prior warning signs. Remember 911?

I know they are different departments, but they are both *gasp* federal agencies. DoJ or the Treasury Department/DHS who cares?

And Holder decided to get involved in Florida already.

So what if they are both federal agencies? You responded to a thread about the Secret Service investigating something by asking why the DoJ wasn't investigating something. That's nonsensical.

Please. Presidents have been assassinated before.

I didn't like President Bush. I have every right to criticize his policies just like Ted Nugent can criticize President Obama's policies, but if I went around in public saying the things about President Bush that Ted "shit in my pants to avoid the draft" Nugent said about President Obama, I'd expect to be hearing from the Secret Service. Especially if it involved decapitation. And rightfully so.

On a side note, being "investigated" means nothing. Accidentally hand a teller a fake note, and you will be "investigated" as well.

Eh, I just attributed it to the Nuge implying that he'd kill himself if Obama was reelected, just like many people (left and right) said they'd leave the country if Obama/McCain were elected in '08. I mean, if you attempt suicide you'll either be dead or in custody, since suicide is illegal, amirite?

Or he could have been implying that if Obama is re-elected, there will be a tightening of controls on gun ownership to the point that his ranch will become another "Ruby Ridge" and the authorities will come to arrest him and perhaps kill him in the process.

He said he'd be "dead or in jail." If you choose to interpret that as implying suicide, go right ahead. I don't think the Secret Service has that luxury. Maybe next time Mr. Nugent should clarify what he means so that it isn't misinterpreted. He's been asked about it since, and has not sought to correct anyone's interpretation of what he said. I think you know well that your interpretation is straining logic to its breaking point, particularly in light the rhetoric that went along with it. Sure, he was 99.99% likely to be exaggerating, beating his chest, etc. But it's clear what he meant in the literal sense.

Loony in terms of the magnitude of the conspiracy, but in concept it's true enough.

1. Obama is not pro-gun, and in fact has an anti-gun history extending into his presidency.
2. Presidents usually get more bold when they have less to lose.

Stands to reason that should it become politically favorable, he will move against gun rights. More likely is the possibility of him appointing anti-gun Supreme Court Justices.

Now this isn't nearly enough for me to go running into Romney's arms, but there is some validity and on gun rights, which are a significant issue to me, Obama has a very large black mark.

I read what he said too. No complicated analysis required. Your "suicide" interpretation is the first I have ever heard, and Nugent himself has not since said that this is what he meant when asked, even though he has discussed the remarks. The better interpretation is that he meant he would take violent action, either against Obama or in the vein of some kind of insurrection. Yes, he is very likely exaggerating and playing the badass. No, he very likely would never do it. It is nonetheless the job of the Secret Service to investigate. They did similar things during the Bush adm and previous admins. You might read up on the evolution of the Secret Service since the JFK assassination. They don't bend over backwards to find innocent interpretations. They bend over the other way. Even if your interpretation is correct, the authorities do not know that. He didn't say "suicide" so they have to assume the worst.

BTW, there are no laws on the books that make suicide illegal any more, and even when there was, they were hardly ever enforced. People don't go to jail for attempting suicide, and it's ridiculous that Nugent would even think that. It wouldn't even have occurred to him, and AFAIK it doesn't seem to have occurred to anyone but you.
