Second Hand Smoke - RE: Stop Smothering AMD - Part II @ THG

All I can say is this writeup is pretty much correct. He is saying that people that like AMD just because they are AMD are hurting AMD.

I don't know what the author was hoping to accomplish by this, as anybody that has an open mind will not just say "I'm gonna only buy AMD because they are AMD"

I mean, look at all the people in these forums that have stopped going AMD to put together an Intel system. I am the same way, If I needed a new rig today, I'd go Intel. I still understand why some would pick AMD today, cause you do still save money.

I guess this article is targeted at the 2 "true" AMD fanboys or something.

I dont see why a lot of people directed their hate mail towards Tom himself, I mean its this guy Omid thats writing these editorials. The hate mail should be directed to Omid instead of Tom or Tomshardware in general. Just because an editorial guy from the NY Times writes something controversial, you dont see anyone attacking New Yorkers.

Hardware fanboys are like a religion.... you need a revelation to convert those kinds of people.

Or like religious fundamentalist, terrorists 😀
And you need an all out "war on zealots" to convert those kinds of people .. not that I care about THG .. just that I think he's right .. if infact what he's saying is;
He is saying that people that like AMD just because they are AMD are hurting AMD.
Then I agree.

I was really pumped on trying the 1.6A or 1.8A (even more tempting with them migrating to the new process!) as the new spare machine (aka game station 😉) until I started looking at the prices. AMD is starting to get a reincarnated "overclocker" reputation for the newer XP1600's running above 1.7GHz which makes me lean back towards AMD. I don't want to spend top dollar on the spare machine every time we upgrade it. The whole idea is that we're spending spare money for the spare machine since its use revolves around entertainment and not anything critical. I'd be hard pressed to justify $400 for something comparable from Intel when I can have an excellent AMD upgrade in the $250 price range.

If you buy AMD, how can you be hurting AMD? That doesnt make any sense.

As for the XP1600+, is it a specific stepping also found in MP's (The only AMD board I will let myself go near is the 760MPX)? Can you just mess with the FSB settings instead of unlocking the chip?

I strongly agree with this;

Intel or AMD - who cares?! Nvidia or ATI - who cares?! Windows or Linux - who cares?! It's about the experience. The technology. It's the journey, not the destination. There is no end point. No perfect buy. No perfect company. No perfect chip. Stop looking for your identity in a piece of hardware!

STFU n00b. AMD 4|\|D nVidia 0|2 d13! 😉

LOL, I'm pretty sure that I know which one of those letters came from Chris Tom. That man has a filthy mouth 😀

Well personally i think that the above is just the writter's excuse to "redeem" him self from his previous (and stupid in my opinion) article. Thats just a bunch of bull. The man flamed AMD through his first article (although he tried not to show it) and now he is trying to tell people he DIDNT after he got tons of flame mails (which he deserved).

What a pathetic loser.
