Individualism is now banned? The liberal foundings of this country are going out the door starting in out govt run schools.

What next, national socialism? All for the govt?

I think these ideas just further the concept that if you don?t want to hand over everything you own to the descendants of slaves then you must be a racist.

There?s a pretty good chance I'll retire in Europe when that time comes. I'm tired of paying for wrongs that happened over 100 years ago.
Have yet to see any Jews petitioning Germany for reparations, and that was much more recent.

I particularly like the racism definition that says that only whites can be racist.

Is this shens...because I'm not even sure I'm jaded enough to believe that there are actually people this stupid. Oh who am I kidding? Of course there are.
You see, I was born in 1979, long after all the desegregation and womens lib stuff.
Having seen what I have of America (and how it compares to the rest fo the world) I honestly believe that the White Male is the least racist, least sexist person around.

I can still remember the days of college and my time in the Navy, sitting around listening to women spout off all kinds of sexist shiat for hours at a time. The one comment I made at at the end of all that was "Women are more sexist than men."
OH, LORD! You should have heard the abuse I got.
Apparently, if a women says it, its true. More than true, its FACT. But if a man says it, its sexist.
But THAT concept (which women came up with, by the way) is not sexist either. Its fact.

At this point I normally go into my "women dont really want equality" rant, but I think you guys have probably heard it before.

I sent an email to the author of that poorly-written garbage. I'll let you know if she replies.

are you going to make another thread or just post it here?

I was going to post it here, but it looks like the author ignored me. I imagine she's gotten a lot of emails recently, though. ;)

It looks like they changed the website. A libertarian wrote in to the Seattle PI complaining about it last week and for the next few days there were letters sent in agreeing with how ridiculous their definitions were.

In response to the numerous concerns voiced regarding definitions posted on the Equity & Race website, we have decided to revise our website in a way that will hopefully provide more context to readers around the work that Seattle Public Schools is doing to address institutional racism. The intended purpose of our work in the area of race and social justice is to bring communities together through open dialogue and honest reflection around what is meant by racism and the impact is has on our society and more specifically, our students. Our intention is not to put up additional barriers or develop an ?us against them? mindset, nor is it to continue to hold onto unsuccessful concepts such as a melting pot or colorblind mentality. It is our hope that we can explore the work of leading scholars in the areas of race and social justice issues to help us understand the dynamics and realities of how racism permeate throughout our society and use their knowledge to help us create meaningful change. This difficult work is vital to the success of our students and families. Thank you for sharing your concerns.

Warm regards,

Caprice D. Hollins, Psy.D.
Director of Equity & Race Relations

Seattle Public Schools

They haven't changed their minds, that's for sure. There's things in that very paragraph that I don't like. They merely removed the listing due to inpopularity, but I'm sure no one has convinced the authors of said definitions to think any differently.

It's the same with a lot of minorities. They want to be treated equally as the majority, but they don't want to be treated AS the majority. They want to keep their 'identity'. Special treatment, pretty much, is what these types of people want.

Yup. Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others. Welcome to liberal racist programs.

It's stuff like this that make me want to exhume John Stanford, rig him up to a turbine and bury him again.

Seattle has some incredible programs. C89.5 out of Nathan Hale is a great radio station. I don't particularly enjoy the music it plays, but acknowledge its success. Other schools have great programs, too.

Then SSD considers what schools to close. Instead of looking at failing schools and closing them, it looks to shut down successful ones to be "equitable."

Wait, are you saying Seattle public schools are indoctrinating our youth so that they'll bow down to corporate life? If that's the case, have you ever been to Seattle? Most people here aren't exactly pro big corporation.

If that's not what you're trying to say, maybe I should put on my tinfoil hat so that I can understand you.

Simply putting on your tinfoil hat isn't enough. You have to tune in to the right frequency.

One of my friends is a DJ for C89.5. I also can't say that I listen to the station but I know quite a few people who do.

Seattle schools do have some pretty good programs but there is definitely a lot of room for improvement.
