Hi guys!

I have a weird problem which has been happening from some time.

I have the Seasonic G550 RM PSU which is 5.5 years old with Intel i5 4440 and the Gigabyte B85 D3H. Rams are Hyperx 1866mhz DDR3 8GBX2.
I have two 1TB hdd and a Chinese fan controller with a heavy duty fan from delta.

Now, the problem is that after shutting down the pc, it wouldn't turn back on unless I give it time like 10hrs. Only after that much time, it would turn on when pressing the on button.

I contacted my local pc repair shop and they first said my PSU is faulty. Then they gave me another psu to try it out. So, after turning off my pc, I tried turn on and it wouldn't . So, I swapped the psu and it also failed to turn on.
So, they said it's a problem with the motherboard and replaced some chip but after some days, the problem came back.

Then I thought maybe its the ram. So, changed my old G.Skill ram to the above mentioned brand new rams but the problem remained.

Then, after a while it disappeared. It was all normal. But yeah, it sometimes wouldn't turn on and I have to press the on button repeatedly to turn it on.

Now, it's back. It just wouldn't turn on unless I give it a lot of time.
I tried disconnecting the psu cables and shorted the green and back cables but the psu wouldn't turn on.

Would the on button of my cabinet short sone part of the psu or something ?
Or is it the fan of the psu give bad ?

It's really weird!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know, man. @mikeymikec trusts only Seasonic power supplies. So it must be a problem with something else.
THE JonnyGuru! Nice to see you !

You are the reason why I bought a Seasonic psu even though the Seasonic brand goes for a premium in my country.

Btw, could it be any short in the motherboard near the ram slot?
I did have trouble with ram. I lost two used G.Skill sniper 8 gb rams and now I'm using brand new Kingston Hyperx.

Anyway , I would only upgrade until I get a concrete idea on how AMD's 4000 series perform. Otherwise it's gonna be the Intel i5 10600kf !!

Just a little update. My pc won't boot now!

I'm sick of this ****.

Thinking about the upgrade!

Should I create a new thread or just continue it here?

You haven't done everything that was suggested here so far, so why create a new thread?

Get a new power supply, or borrow one. Heck, take it into a PC repair shop and let them test with a new power supply.

I did test it with a used psu earlier and it didn't work.

I'll try to get a new psu and test it.
But yeah, local pc shops don't like to support me coz I don't buy from them. It sucks lol :D
Let me see if I can borrow one from them.

Regarding my urge to upgrade:
It's certain that I'll be getting a new pc this year due to my old processor. So, I'm thinking why not now?

So, I brought my pc to my friend's place and we checked it with his CM350 psu and it doesn't turned on. He then shorted the green and black wires of my seasonic to confirm it's working and it is.
It turns on when shorting the green and black cables.

We thought that it must be the motherboard which could be causing it.

So, he would be sending it to one of his motherboard repair guys to check it out.
Let's see.

Ok, I got my pc back. It boots without an issue...as of now.
They said to have replaced some chip (still they aren't open about it) and removed the mem slot 0 & 1 short.

Need to check the motherboard for any fresh solder marks and spot the said chip.

I'm having the same problem with this model, twice.

I had it RMA few years ago and now the same problem happens again, so I'm quite sure this model had some kind of design defective.

I have a spare PSU, replace and problem solved!

^ A few years ago, so you've gotten years of life from it until now?

Maybe it just wore out.

However if you read the last post by x_marX, you'll see that the PSU wasn't the problem, rather some "chip", perhaps a bad memory module.
