SeaQuest DSV

Ok, so I noticed tonight that SeaQuest DSV is now available on Netflix streaming. Who remembers that show and specifically, the incredible hype and coverage it got only to see it arrive to low ratings and repeated reworkings of the cast?

For those who may not remember it, it started in 1993 and it ripped off elements from many sci-fi shows, especially ST:TNG.

It was a pretty good show. Even today it still is, though I think they messed up in not having a better secondary character cast.

I think the way they kept trying to rework the cast hurt them more than helped them. I just remember I hated the kid -- kind of like I hated Wesley Crusher. 😀

EDIT: Ok, now I feel like a giant asshole -- I didn't realize (or maybe forgot) that Jonathan Brandis killed himself.

I just remembered the lady they added in season 2 who was a blatant ripoff of Counselor Troi. She was pretty hot IIRC but it was an embarrassing development.

Oh god, we just got to the point where they introduce the talking dolphin....

Side note: Lucas made his appearance wearing a Marlins jersey with a "World Series Champs, 2010" emblazoned on the back.

It jumped the shark when they sent them in the future sadly after vanishing for a certain amount of years.

Other then that I remember only the "sonic showers" part and sadly it let women take them without undressing. 🙁

That and the episode where hardly anyone was left alive after somehow getting sent hundreds of years into the future because the people then were too busy playing a video game using real life mechs to destroy each other then to have kids. 😛

The only thing I remember about that show is that the local TV columnist said the show stunk and the name meant Don't Set the VCR.

This actress?

His last words were why did they hate me so oh god why:ninja:

I just finished watching it recently. Even though it was rather weak and downright stupid at times, I enjoyed all 3 seasons. I use shows like this to have on while I am modeling, so my full attention is not focused on the show. I am not sure I could have just sat in a chair and gave it my undivided attention for 3 seasons.

First season was ok. I liked it a lot as a kid, but I don't think it holds up too well. Parts of it are fine -- the parts that concentrate on actual sea exploration and colonization and science and all that -- and so the potential for a good show is definitely there, but a lot of the writing is iffy, partly because they concentrated too much on Lucas. All the Wesley-style "kid saves the spaceship submarine" episodes get silly. It seems like they were trying too hard to appeal to kids/teenagers.

Past the first season it got worse, and I stopped watching even when it was originally on. From what I've seen, they stripped out all the things that were good about the first season and replaced it with bad Star Trek.

I watched this every weekend religiously,at the time it seemed the greatest thing ever.
Out of nostalgia ,I tried to watch a few episodes recently;my first thoughts,Gawd it is awful, corny as fvck.

They totally fumbled the execution of that episode. But still, of the entire series that was by far the best sci-fi episode.

I thought it was great until they ended up doing the whole alien planet/future thing. I started watching that part and was all like "Wtf?"
