The $50 rebate works on that too, and they're usually $20-30 cheaper...meaning we might be able to get the 8MB PATA for $60 or so....

This is perfect. Even with shipping and tax (I live in WA) I'd be able to have a big hard drive plus a nice enclosure (say, $60) for a grand total under $180.

PATA is great for storage, I don't even mind ATA/100 when you're getting a nice deal like this. Too bad I don't have any extra IDE slots (and don't feel like getting a card)![]()

what is wrong with pata/ata100 period? sata may be theoretcially faster but in reality it is not as the drives don't even burst over 100MB/s....with the exception of possibly the raptor.

I don't think anyone wants to hear about FW deals around here. Anandtech doesn't need them!

Could someone inform me of these difficulties?
I am getting ready to buy an external drive and am debating between buying an internal drive and an enclosure or just purchasing an external drive. I was about to go with the 300gb seagate external drive (Link) until i heard about these "difficulties."
Thx

$8.74 ground shipping seems kind of expensive considering there's a Fry's is just 2 hours away from where I live... I'm going to sleep on it for a few days and maybe get it on Monday if I still want the drive. I could use a big drive like this for backups, and Seagate is the best
