Sounds like the person who designed the coupon was just silly when they didn't include that information on the second page.

Could be BS, but they guy sounded honest. At any rate, I'm not gonna drive all the way to BB to have them reject the coupon.

Here is that email.
Oh, and the title of the email is "Save hundreds instantly on computer accessories." Nothing about computer accessories only for your-newly-purchased-today-at-our-store computer.

I went and picked one up with no problems. I had to pay ~$106 (119.00 - $20 coupon) up front and then the two $40 MIR printed out. If/when I get the rebates it comes out to be about $26. Hopefully I'll get the rebates back! Thanks op.

From that email, my interpretation is that it does seems their intent was that you have to buy a new notebook or PC to get that $20 off.

I spent a long time yesterday talking to the General Manager and his District Manager when trying to purchase the Memory. It seems that in addition to this ad, someone made up an unauthorized ad and placed it on some e-coupon site. They were declining any responsibility. I said it was still on their website, not some unauthorized site. I also said that they had signes with a copy of this ad placed around the store stating that you need to buy a computer/notebook for the ad to be valid. I asked where it said that on the coupon. They said it was a mistake, and should state that. I said that anyone in their business would have corrected the mistake, or takend the ad off after 7 days if indeed it was incorrect. Clearly it was their fault, and the need to honor corporate's ads. They finally agreed that corporate should have corrected the ad by now, and let me have the memory for $.01. I'm not sure why it was that way, but new memory for my lappy for a penny was worth it.

I think the same argument would hold for this hard drive, except that I have read in another thread that the rebates may not be valid it the drive was price matched or otherwise reduced.

Can someone who has the actual rebate read through it and see if any such stipulations are there?

I got mine.

The coupon was accepted with no questions and no problems. Scan the drive, scan the coupon, rebates and receipts print out, and the deal was done.

There were about 20 drives left at ~1PM at the Hawthorn, CA store.

Is there an online resource for these rebates? I only found 1 $40 rebate listed on the website. And the details of the rebate submission imply that it is only good for online purchases (says to include your "Online Order Receipt"). It would be nice to be able to get the rebate forms from some other source than the register print outs (although if the register receipt shows the price match they wouldn't honor the rebate anyway - but if it doesn't show that then you could price match and just print out your rebate forms at home).

It sounds like a great deal. Thanks OP!

This Seagate link Seagate Parallel ATA drives shows two 160 GB drives, the 7200.7 and the 7200.7Plus. The Plus shows three year warranty the non-plus shows nothing about warranty length. The 120 GB version also shows that same discrepancy.
This link shows Barracuda drives seem to have 5 year warranties.
Most like they do need to clean up their website and fix these discrepancies.

Just got one using the coupon without any problems. BTW, I checked my warranty status and it expires 8-10-2010.

My BB in Lynwood Wash sucks! They have a scan of the $20 coupon taped on the shelf over the hard drives "this coupon not accepted". People getting to use it are lucky indeed. But not around me.

worked for me in Broomfield CO. Had to get them to go fectch more drives from the back, but otherwise smooth sailing.
It does have a sticker that says "5 year warranty". perfect for my linux server. I'm sure I'll find a used for the 80G drive I'll be pulling out of it.
Thanks Allisolm!

Now I need a 300G SATA for the same price for my gaming machine.

Had no trouble using the coupon. The clerk scanned it without questioning it and the register automatically removed $20.00 so the price of the drive was $99.99 -- with tax, $106.54. The two $40.00 rebates printed at the register so the end result is 16.7 cents per gigabyte!! That is with tax included. The boxes say five year warranty, and a big red sticker on the box says the same thing.

Thanks to all who brought this truly hot deal to our attention.

No problems here with the coupon either....

The clerk scanned the coupon, it appeared on the queue on the screen.

Then he scanned in the Seagate drive and then the rest of my items.

He then pressed enter for the total, and a screen came up that said something like, "Apply $20 preferred customer coupon?" and he pressed enter, and it took the $20 off.

No problems whatsoever, definitely sweet deal. I want to try the $90 off memory + installation deal.

Thx thx

Got the drive for ~$107. (120 - 20 in store coupon + ~7 for tax)
They accepted the coupon with no questions. Got the 2 rebate forms. Had 5 drives left in St. Peters, MO.
Very hot deal IMO.

Wow...so dumb. The Ames IA store simply would not take it, claiming the coupon was only good with the purchase of a laptop... I argued with em for about 10 minutes but they wouldn't budge.

You guys think that 160gb HD's for 40 bucks each is still hot enough to warrant buying two of em for a new HTPC im building? I bought 2 of em, but ive been debating it since i came home. Still seems semi hot at that price.

The $20.00 off coupon worked for me. They have to enter it in a specific way, the guy had to call over a manager to show him how to do it. It also stacks with any Reward Zones coupons you may have as well. I got this for $15.00 after rebates and coupons.

Since this is only a regular IDE HDD (not SATA), $40 for 160GB ($0.25/GB) is only warm at best. I suggest price matching this deal to Fry's. If that doesn't work, wait until next week for another deal after rebate. Or check the following thread for other HDD deals this week:

I also had the coupon work for me today. No pausing/questions from the person ringing up the drive. In and out in 5 minutes. I needed more storage for a media pc. Thanks for the post, Allisolm!

Woot. Just got back from BB. They took the cpuon and got the rebates. $20 for 160 gigs. Girl just scanned the barcode and then at the end of the transaction it popped up asking to take the $20 off. worked like a charm.
