This is not purely theoretical.
The Bush tax cuts had sunset provisions. Obama extended the cuts on the lower incomes, but returned the top rate to 39.6% from Bush's 35%.
They also restored the estate taxes (which Trump attacked again.)

Trump and Cohen are also exposed to federal, state and local tax fraud and business fraud charges for the way they structured the shell companies, hush money and reimbursement payments as to conceal the transaction and it's participants?
This is in addition to the campaign finance charges Cohen is going to prison for.

Heard something similar from Rand Paul last night. He started off with something smart but I know he wouldn’t have agreed if we were talking about President Clinton.
He said the campaign finance laws are overly complicated and recommend jail time when it should be fines. He said something about typical Washington escalating everything to jail time even when it’s not needed.

You hit the real agenda. The Dems have been unable to manufacture/produce any credible evidence that Trump did anything illegal so they are trying to convict him in the court of public opinion. When you have top DOJ officials essentially staging a mutiny against the president, you know that it's looking more and more like a "witch hunt".

Let me get this straight. It's Republican-led investigation that has obtained guilty pleas from several Trump associates and has directly implicated Trump in a violation of election law. It's overseen by a DOJ with Trump-chosen officials. And yet, somehow, it's a Democrat conspiracy that has been "unable" to produce evidence.
Holy shit, you live in a fantasy land completely disconnected from reality.
That's delusional. If "Individual 1" were anybody but the President they'd have been indicted with Cohen. Senator, Congressman, Governor, anybody.
When it comes to criminal matters, the President must first be out of office before facing any charges. The head of federal law enforcement obviously won't direct the DoJ to prosecute himself. We can't have the power of the Presidency being wielded from a prison cell, either.
That's a no-brainer supremo.
