Anything newer than ~2005 shouldn't even be considered as they are too new to really see their impact. Also, they usually sucked. Especially in the RPG genre.
Edit: Oh, and DarkStone. Anyone remember that?

so disappointed that this was never updated. Though if it were, I fear that it would be a squad-based FPS, mostly garbage.![]()

Deus Ex + Ocean Side Hotel. You get back to me.
<3
This game is oozing and dripping atmosphere, deep foreboding atmosphere, meaningful choices and RPG elements.
A source engine gem. One of the few games that completely engrossed me, frightened me. It might have been a point in me life, but this game is consuming. A sound effect and soundtrack to die for. Sharp well developed characters. Play your cards right and land a schwank apartment with your very own sexed up goul. Climb through vents to pick locks, hack computers, putting those RPG skills to use to solve quests your own way (ala Deus Ex). Factions. Different endings. Incredibly mature themes. Rating: A(Adult) Some downright disturbing locales. If Shadowrun was made today with an adult rating and injected with everything supernatural, it *might* look something like this.
Hmm but there's a 100 games...maybe room for 2 in a series or at least honorable mention.
The problem with Top100 games list these days is that gaming has been around far too long and across such a long time period. This is a great problem really because there are just that many good games out there but over this time period there are far too many games to fit into top 100.
For example people could very easily and I believe truthfully say Starcraft is a game that defined the RTS genre. And how could you argue with that?
Portal - In many ways, it is one of the most original game concepts out there. (Maybe not the greatest of all time, be definitely on the top 100 or top 1000 list).
Half Life - Goes without saying. Smooth loading, lots of game time, and really fun multiplayer.
Starcraft - Come on, this one is just fun.
Black and White - Still a woot to play. I love this game. I only wish it was more popular and that its expansions/older brother didn't suck so much.
Jedi Knight: Dark forces II. Such a fun game. I think I have every nook and cranny of the levels memorized.
Rise of Nations: Probably one of the funnest AoE style RPGs out there.
Freespace 2
In the now dead genre of Space Sims/Shooters
Gothic 1&2
Knights of the Old Republic
Warcraft 2 : Starcraft :: Chuck Berry : Elvis
Starcraft defined nothing, as it had already been defined. Though it certainly brought that definition to the mainstream.
Can I post another good sir? W/ a picture? I like the pictures. This thread is awesome.
