I can't imagine why they'd have to rewrite parts of the game, just because it's leaked. What does it matter?

They make it sound like there was only 1 disc that all their code was on and it got stolen or something.

lol. I'm sure they had backups and backups of backups, etc.

As posted earlier, its just an excuse since they weren't ready.

That Cnn article is incorrect. Gabe said in yesterday's radio interview that the portion of the source code that was stolen was small and the game is still on track for a holiday release.

Hmm...the CNN article says it spoke to a company executive. Has there been any confirmation on whether it will be delayed yet again or not? If it is, that would extremely suck, and make you wonder if this game will EVER get out the door.

That's lame. I smell a Valve conspiracy to coverup the stink that is Steam.

What the hell? Gabe is one of VALVe's owners and original founders. Executives of what company? Vivendi?

*Public service announcement*

VALVe is funding and developing the game themselves. They control when the game is released - not Vivendi.

Let me be more exact.

The CNN article MISQUOTED the VU rep. He actually said "there is the potential for Half-Life 2 to be pushed back as far as April 2004"

First hand knowledge, Gabe's interview yesterday, is more accurate than the VU rep.

Likewise. If you download the source code, I bet it isn't even close to being production ready yet. They are just needing a scapegoat to have a reason for delaying the game.

gabe, the same guy who lied up to the last minute about making the release date of 30th. the game may be great (if we ever get our hands on it), but they're lying and marketing sucks.

Right now, with the source code, people can write all kinds of cheat programs for it. So instead of the couple years of more or less cheat free gaming like we had with HL, the cheats are available right from the get go. Making multiplayer blow.

Up to the last minute? I remember interviews with Ken Birdwell and Gabe Newell at ETCS this year around August 29 saying the release date is still scheduled for Sep 30. Did anybody hear anything from them between this date and Sep 22-ish where they officially delayed the game? I certainly didn't.

Did it ever occur to you that around this time is when the source code was stolen? Think that might have something to do with the delay? Of course not, this is all a publicity stunt! VALVe purposely released 4+ years of code to the internet for everybody to download just so that they could delay an almost completed game.
