I, for one, am somewhat glad that the game is being pushed back. The hardware required to get a decent framerate is still quite expensive. I think a nice six-month delay will help bring the hardware prices down to a respectable level.

It's delayed because now all the developers were like "oh #(@*&!, everyone can see our goto statements!" With the code released they would probably go over the code carefully and patch up any weaknesses that people could spot.

You can't seriously be this stupid. Of course VALVe has copies of the source code - it isn't like the hacker deleted the code off their machines. The problem is huge portions of the network and engine code is freely available on the internet. I imagine VALVe might be rewriting portions of the code to tighten security and close holes in the program. A sort of pre-emptive strike against hacks based off the old codebase.

Once again: This is all a rumour, and until we hear anything from VALVe it will stay a rumour.

What you are implying is that it was fully of security holes and such. Why would they release it like that anyway? My point is that they are making excuses.

rofl... i dont feel any sympathy for valve, they deserved it.... they should have hurried their as$es and release the god damn game...
and if they are using this as an excuse to delay the game because they couldn't finish it, screw them... they can go to hell

They just needed a new excuse to delay the game.

Yup,

Ooooh, it was the hackers thats why it didn't come out on time, right.

Am i the only one who has totaly lost interest in HL2 at this point?

Nope. Steam started it, delays solidified it, this excuse sets it in stone. And has anyone actually LOOKED at the source code? A Comp Sci teacher would flunk them for that crap. Variables named as profanity, pointless comments "This does somthing", functions named "HAMMERTIME"

It's funny that they try to ingrain it into us never to do that, but the pros do it all the time.

Then again, the reason for the delay is that they can't figure out what the hell their code does

:disgust:

Took over 12 months for the 9700p to drop 50 dollars. As for nvidia, well, their too busy making revisions of their GPU's. They know those graphic cards are still valuable to the high-end gaming market while keeping the hardware enthusiasts in mind. They'll continue to take advantage of those high-end gamers until they stop buying them or when the card itself is completly worthless. Customers are not the only ones that look at those benchmark charts, keep in mind.

Correct. There's NO reason that a DEV network should be connected to the outside world - at all. Who knows, maybe these hackers worked for id.

There is supposedly a beta leak with 7 levels that came out this past weekend. I will wait until I see it first hand to believe it though.

Half Life was quite delayed when it came out, why would the sequel be any different?

Republic: The Revolution, UT2k3, Doom 3, just a few other games that I can remember being delayed by months.

Diakatana is a historical example.

Games get delayed, deal with it for Gods sake people.

Because they didn't say anything about it for 5 years and then came out of no where and said it would be released on September 30th. If they weren't absolutely certain the game was going to come out they should have just kept their mouths shut. This whole source code leak thing isn't their fault, but the game not coming out on the 30th was. As it stands they've just got a lot of people all hyped up and now disinterested. If they would have waited until 2 weeks before the game was going to come out I guarantee they wouldn't have sold any less copies than they will now.

Plus they wouldn't have made a whole bunch of people bitter.

It's not technically delayed yet.

Edit: I guess some sites are saying it is officially delayed now.
