Screaming 15-Year-Old Girl Pepper Sprayed After Biting Officer

why would a kid act that way for something so minor?
I don't get it

The girl was stopped for violating the city's curfew law. The officer writes in the police report that at one point, the girl "clamped down on my hand/wrist and I felt immediate pain shot up my arm. The pain was shocking, and I thought the suspect was going to extract a large piece of flesh from my hand.? The police chief weighed in on the matter. "It is shocking to see that a police officer has had to use that level of force against a child. But ... my opinion is he responded appropriately and in accordance with our policies," he said.

The cop did the right thing. Anyone who disagrees is wrong.

I disagree
You're just playing the devil's advocate, as usual. 😛

That girl need to get some counseling. She needs to learn respect, and basically learn to act like a normal 15 y/o. I swear she was calling out for her Ma a few times. Grow up.

I dunno, that seemed like pure reaction. I'm sure I would have done the same.

He very much appears to punch her after she bit him, then he pepper sprays her. They both appear to have overreacted. It's disturbing, because it once again shows that the police are as short tempered as the people they are arresting. What happened to professionalism?

And actually, my first question is, why is this girl being handcuffed for violating a city ordinance? Why not just chuck her in the back of the cruiser and drive her whiny ass home?

The cop is twice her size, unless he is a wuss, he could have easily overpowered her and forcefully put her hand behind her back. I think he was just trying to be cautious about it, probably too cautious, buty you can tell he made every effort to be in front of the camera so everyone can see her behavior.

If you were looking at the same video but they were off camera and all you could hear was the girl crying, you'd have a much different perspective/reaction to the vid. After she bit him, he could have just used more force, but he went to the pepper spray instead. Don't think it really matters anyway, he was in the right.

it was a reaction/almost punch. i don't think it landed. then he decided to go for the spray

you can see him look at the camera once or twice. and it seems obvious that as the whole thing started to go bad, he brought her in front of the camera to cover his butt. i think he knew it could get ugly based on how she was acting

that would suck to have a job where you are publically critiqued and video taped all the time. too much pressure for my taste

The pressing question here is:

Will Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton get fatigued from flying back and forth between the Jena 6 and the Fort Pierce 1?

That video is disturbing. I have no sound on this computer at work - was there anything outwardly wrong with that girl? Mentally handicapped? Impaired in any way?

he was short tempered??!?!?! he gave her plenty of time to comply and yet she kept resisting.

she is just whining, sounds like a five year old when they don't want to go to bed and throw a tantrum

she just says stuff like " i didn't do anything" "let me go home" etc

seems to me she doesn't understand that if a police officer is putting you in restraints/cuffs, you have to comply or else you are resisting. it isn't really open for negotiation at that point

Wow...part of me says "I'm totally not surprised that the person in question is of a darker complexion."

And then I wonder, "What if the cop was black too..or what if the cop was black and the girl was white.."

Crappy situation.

Heck yes he was short tempered. he had already hit her in the face. He pepper sprayed her in retaliation.

I've done probably three dozen police ride alongs and seen cops deal with a lot worse than this and just shrug it off. The ones I know would have never let it drag on that long. They would have just overpowered her eraly on, got her cuffed & in the cab, and moved on. Don't overlook the show he was putting on just because the girl is a complete brat.

And I reiterate, why cuff an ordinance violater? That's partly why this escalated. I don't know this particular jurisdiction, but it seems completely overboard unelss she had already tried to assault him off camera. He is in no danger here.

What the hell, kids are arrested for violating curfews now? When I was a teenager the cops would just tell you to go home. Worst case they would drive you home (without handcuffs).

you weren't there. you don't know exactly what happened. she was probably cuffed because she wasn't cooperating. he may have tried to get her into his car first and she wouldn't comply.

are you going to pull out the race card next? please. don't.
