The parallels to Elon here are pretty striking. A rich guy used to only fawning coverage turns into a right wing asshole when people on the internet make fun of them.

You dont say

Elmo : “The media is racist.”

Elmo : "“For a *very* long time, US media was racist against non-white people, now they’re racist against whites & Asians,” Musk said in another post. “Same thing happened with elite colleges & high schools in America. Maybe they can try not being racist.” "

It seems like Elmo wants his own Kanye West moment. Common Elmo, I dare you to go defcon 3 on racist media.

The comments are absolutely disgusting.

Anyway yeah he went off the deep end. A friend of mine who's ridiculously smart and worked/lived with engineers for much of his life said this is actually not that common in engineering to see this happen. Somehow engineers go from realizing they're pretty good at "X" in engineering to assuming

1) they know everything about everything
2) they know how to solve all the worlds problems efficiently, even in fields they have zero expertise in
3) the rest of the world is absolutely crazy for not just listening to them and they're the only ones who see the truth
Scott Adams was never actually an engineer, IIRC, he just worked with a bunch of telecommunications engineers at one of the Bells. This also really has not been my experience with the hundreds of engineers I've worked with. I know far more business people that think they know everything than engineers.

He only has business degrees according to Wiki.

Like many others, he wasn't normal before Trump. Trump just normalized vocalizing it.

To wit: "He's just saying what everyone else is thinking."

That nails it. Trump has managed to blow up gains made in racial reconciliation esp that last 10 years.

Pubs tried to claim racism went away when Obama was elected. It didn’t go away it just went dormant waiting for someone to give it life.

Adam’s isn’t voicing anything different then the current Republican leadership. Supporting white nationalists and their ideals.

I’m still waiting for an answer from Grennie why Republicans in Congress support white nationalists.

Cat’s out of the bag my friends. Pubs maintain power by convincing their base black people are bad as part of their culture wars. Apparently, it isn’t a heavy lift convincing their peeps.

Elon Musk is helping by blaming the media saying they are racist against white people. He got in a 2 fer on that. The media and indirectly black people.

So he was normal until Trump?

Some of the progress made by the election of Obama overt displays of racism were judged poorly which was a good thing.

Adam’s has always been this way but smart enough not to openly vocalize it. He sees the current Republican culture war and he now feels free to let his white hood fly. Pretty clever trying to carve out Asians into their hate club, knowing they favor Democrats

Fox News will have his back by echoing Musk and his proclamation of oppressed white people. That prediction was an easy lift

The 1-2 punch of having Obama as (a relatively successful) president after the failure of W, and then Trump follow just plain old either a) broke them or b) allowed their true feelings to become more public.

Them taking credit for Obama's economic recovery also helped Rs.
Then Trump was voted out just in time to hand Biden the big old steaming pile of Pandemic, inflation and all.

WTF.

For clarification from the RWNJs on this, are they now claiming blacks run the media now, or is that still the Jews, and they are just making blacks racists against whites in some grand racial conspiracy? Is this the Khaki Klux Klan was chanting about in VA? Jews replace whites with blacks as a stop gap, then they replace the blacks? Where do the space lasers, Q, world bank, and covid vaccines play in?

Their delusional fantasies are more complicated and contain more big baddies than 29 years of the Marvel Universe.

I think many of us knew he was a RWNJ but this time he came right out and said it,
according to his podcast. He said black people are a hate group.

"
“The best advice I would give to white people is to get the hell away from Black people,” Adams said with his mouth.
“Just get the fuck away. Wherever you have to go, just get away,” he went on.
And on: “There’s no fixing this. This can’t be fixed. ... You just have to escape. So that’s what I did, I went to a neighborhood where I have a very low Black population.”
Adams said pollsters had found “nearly half of all Blacks are not OK with white people,” and that meant Black people constituted “a hate group.”

"

His cartoon, Dilbert is being dumped by at least a couple newspapers.
I bet its a lot more of them after all of this is over.
Surprising to see Adams make such statements. He had to know what the consequences would be, yet he obviously felt that making his opinion known was more valuable than his income.
I attended a small gathering about twenty years back and Adams was the featured speaker. He came across as level headed and an out of the box thinker. The political issues he touched on were global, none of them racial. I have to wonder what made him decide to go down this path now.

Don't know much about the guy but I suspect the signs were there all along. People make the choice to pay attention to them.

BTW - Still waiting for an answer from you to why Republican Party national leaders support white nationalists?

PS - I must email Scot Adams because I did not receive my membership card to the hate group I've belonged to my entire life.

I've been personally exposed to that affliction whereby very intelligent fresh out of college engineers out to prove themselves worthy would apply their theoretical solution to some certain mechanical/structural problem only to be stymied by how the practical aspects of the problem time and again conflicts with their "proven beyond doubt" theoretical approach. The proof is always glaringly present in the blueprints they CAD their way into existence that somehow get "lost" when things go sideways with their designs.

That being said, more times than not, when these engineers get exposed more and more to the practical application of their solutions, they get things squared away and produce some really great ingenious work.

The problem with smart people is that they think they are too smart to ever get caught up in propaganda and when they do get caught up they are smart enough to justify why conspiracy and propaganda is the truth.

I would assume that the republican's embrace white nationalists as they represent a voting block. Beyond that the only reason I see is that they feel threatened by the changes occurring in our society.

I will also note once again that I'm not a republican. My political views are all over the map, but generally conservative. I don't do hate based politics, nor do I accept race or politically based guilt.

Not surprising at this point; Adams has been tumbling down the conservative rabbit hole for a while now. I'd say it's because the modern American right-wing has created a false dichotomy where you either accept increasingly extreme ideas or abandon conservatism altogether; Adams feels he 'must' adopt racist views if he wants to remain loyal to the cause.

I will agree that Adams has fallen a long way from when he was at his height a couple of decades ago.

Does that not prove the Republican Party is a racist party if its members support white nationalists and the leadership refuses to condemn such actions?

Damn! As an engineer I often found humor in Dilbert's trials and tribulations and perhaps a bit of shared identity with him. What a shame that this comic strip is now forever poisoned by his hateful racial views. Down the same toilet as Bill Cosby.

And so now I have changed my icon and hope that the creators of Wallace & Gromit do not embarrass me. 😫

He gets all his jokes from fans, so you'd get the same humor on numerous subreddits.

At least we still have actual talented artists like Berkeley Breathed.

Funny, the mechanical engineers vice electronics or software engineers I've dealt with seem to have this, my designs are perfect problem. Even if there's an equivalent design with load studies supporting them. You finally just give up and say we will go with your design. Frigging crane load crap. Computers would be still the size of a small room using today's mechanical engineering fudge factors.

I would guess that he took too much ivermectin.
