Correct, Obama staffs an automotive task force with people who have no automotive manufacturing experience, 20% of which don't even own automobiles--and they're tasked with "saving" the American automotive industry? Yes, cluelessness. We'll see how Chrysler's "surgical bankruptcy" turns out. I'll bet it won't be over in 30-60 days and I'll also bet that when it is all said and done Fiat will be the big winner and Chrysler will be a memory.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but your point seems to be that the Detroit 3 are in the dire straights they're in is because they still sell automobiles that run on gas, and that somehow, profitable vehicles are the cause of their current problems. Alas, I'm sure GM would be in a much better position today had they not made all that damned profit. :roll: In case you hadn't noticed, but for the exception of niche brands or product, every automobile company is having trouble selling cars today. Sales of the Prius are down 61% last month vs last year.

I mean what the fuck, why haven't the Detroit 3 invented cold fusion or warp drive? Damn them short sighted earth hating idiots!

Detroit does not sell cars for transportation. They sell dreams, fantasies and a predictably unsustainable fiction. They gorged on oil and blew up when oil and dream money got scarce. They sold us what they wanted us to demand via psychological manipulation via advertisement and now that dreams are folding they are in trouble. Had they focused on economy, utility, functionality, and technological advancement away from oil they would be much smaller but viable companies and America and the world would be better off both in climate and international relations. The warnings of ultimate disaster from oil dependence have been out there for at least 60 years.

I would probably stop short of calling you a hypocrite for further perpetuating our dependence on oil, but just barely. Without the profit generated by GM trucks, GM would have ceased to exist years ago. The only viable alternative to the internal combustion engine at this point in history is battery powered electric vehicle. Imagine the ecological catastrophy we would be facing today if every car on the road was run on 700 pounts of batteries instead of gas. How about storing the hazardous waste from those spent batteries in your back yard? How do you feel about doubling the number of nuclear power or coal plants to meet the demand for charging those batteries?

But Corn, the nightmare you project is exactly where we will be going now, in a weakened economic state and out of necessity, instead of making that change in the past when we had more resources and more time to research and to better prepare.
