That's the unladen weight. These vehicles are being marketed as something where you can cram anything in the back and go...and having weight back there will really slow the car down with only 108 HP. My point is that if it's designed to be a commuter car, they can give it a better aerodynamic profile and save gas, and if it's designed to be a hauler, they need a bigger engine.
I know that Toyota uses common components, I LIKE Toyotas, but as an engineer I like nice aerodynamic profiles.

Toyota is all about efficiency, and I hate to see such a crude design needlessly bleeding off energy.

If they give it a better areodynamic profile, it wouldn't be an xB now would it? :D

Toyota is trying to be different for a change. People say they are too bland and people bitch. They try something new and people bitch.

Well, the design made me think of two things......

the old Fords when cars first came out.....

and rappers, it made me thinkof rappers.

I suppose...I always thought their old designs were fine econoboxes. Drove one myself, it ran perfectly day in and day out. As for "bland", the Supra and MR2 worked for me.

I guess Americans are picky ;)

My rant isn't so much that Toyota is making it, it's more that people are BUYING it. Seems like quite the impractical vehicle. People who want an econobox should buy one, people who want a hauler should buy one.

I actually like the shape of these cars, although they could be a little more stylish. My main problem is that the engines suck.

I'm a tall guy with long legs, so I like the extra head/leg-room. I sat in the Matrix and liked it, but the automatic version was sluggish at best. I can't drive a manual because of a back problem so I'm stuck.

They need to stick a 2.0l engine or better in these things. Offer an AWD option as well. I'd be on it. If only the Matrix AWD was ~140hp I'd pick one up.

I crapped out something that looked like an xB once. It hurt so much cause of the sharp corners....

GOD THOSE CARS SUCK.

Now the tC, that's something I could see myself buying if I wasn't broke.

they are pretty ugly, but better than the xA which might the most wussy-looking car ever made with the exception of the Mercury Capri.
