Do you guys understand what this is?

RWD, low COG, under 2800 lbs., Toyota sports car. Gorgeous too... not enough love in this thread.

If it can compete with a V6 Mustang (but with enough torque to do anything), has a 6spd manual, and has quality Toyota build quality then I would strongly consider it.

I really hope that because they put a Scion badge on it they don't ruin the interior or find other ways to make it cheap.

The performance remains to be seen, though more competition is always good.

To compete with the 300hp V6 Mustang it would need 233hp, at least for the same power/weight ratio.

Ha, if they released it looking like that they'd have a contender for greatest motor swap project car in history. It's incredibly good looking. It'll be dull as hell by the time it makes it to us though.

The Scion version is basically production version. It's a 2013 model set for Fall 2012 arrival.

If you look at the FT-86 concept I & II, those are far more outlandish.

Haha, sorry but it won't look like that when it comes out. It rides too low, the brakes and wheels are too big, the tires are slicks, the rear diffuser will not make it to production, etc. These changes together will dramatically change the stance and how attractive I think the car is.

That's how cars look now. Ridiculous. I hope they tone it down. The front looks goofy.

I mean the body will basically stay the same.

People who buy these cars are going to mod them with coilovers, wide wheels, low offsets anyway.

The front end is a bit too Mazda-y for me, but otherwise I would take it as is (rice and all) 😛

The body is far from the only thing that affects how attractive the car is. Even if the body stays the same, they're going to downsize the wheels and relax the agressive side skirts and diffuser. This, IMO, will make the car quite a bit more boring.

If they have to mod it to look like that, it's not basically the production version at all.

The FT-86 is much cleaner

The ride height, wheels and tires, skirts and trim dramatically affect the look of the car. What you see in those images is nothing like what we'll see on the show room floor. It may have the same lines but that's it.

Worst case scenario: When this comes out the hood will be flat, the headlights will be square, the wheels will be optional extras with the standard being hubcaps. The rear will be too high and "fat" and the inside will be as bland as people who look forward to driving their new Kia. Sure, it'll have RWD and a boxer engine, but it'll be produced to get better MPGs than the competition while still "looking" sporty and the gearbox will be made from cheese. The turbo version will be a lower displacement engine with less power and better MPGs.

Best case: It will be to the petrol head community what the Camry/Carolla has been to the rest of the world.

Reality: Toyota's version of the Gen Coupe, pretty good, but a lot of room for improvement.

No, I meant it won't matter to people who buy these cars, tend to mod them anyway.

Genesis Coupe is a good example, I've seen a few around and they are modded subtly or like crazy.

That's not what we are fucking talking about:

It is NOT "basically a production version" as you say. I don't give a fuck about the aftermarket. The final production version will look immeasurably more boring than this show car. Just like the final Gen Coupe did.

That's very nice, but a car design is not the wheels and the stance.

A production version could easily be modded to look exactly like this version. Perhaps you could keep up.

Wait, let me make my point again. Perhaps you should FUCKING keep up. Profanities make our arguments stronger!
