SCIENTIST DO NOT REQUIRE FAITH. let's end this fallacy ONCE and FOR ALL. OP Edited.

Scientist DO NOT REQUIRE FAITH to postulate or to make assumptions in their theories.

for a christian to argue that those assumptions are the equivalence of "faith" denies their own religion.

it is the WORST type of arguement, so once and for all, let's QUIT with this WEAK WEAK argument that comes up EVERY time there is a christianity vs atheism thread.

Edit

what i didn't do is spell out what i believe faith to be.

but to equate what scientist believe to the "Faith" of those who are in Christ is a travesty.

Jesus says Spiritual things are SPIRITUALLY discerned and ONLY those born of the spirit can truly understand spiritual things. Man CANNOT have faith without this spiritual rebirth. to equate the knowledge / belief of scientist to the faith of christianity is to deny the divine as it is ONLY thru the actions of the divine that "spiritual" faith can be present in man.

The real answer is simply not to discuss such things on AnandTech, because we clearly don't have the level of intellectuals needed for a meaningful discussion on the subject. Where the hell do you think we're going to come up with an intelligent debater on the side of Creationism?

the irony is you are commenting on "christians" from an agnostic/atheist POV, Me, i'm a christian. i'm a bible carrying, church attending, Masters in Theology holding christian.

to equate Faith to an assumption/ paradigm or postulate is to make faith SOOO much less than what it is.

🙂

No irony at all - you may be exceptionally well educated (kudos), but I don't see you intelligently debating on the side of Creationism in that other thread. Also, I made no claim that all theists (Christians specifically) believe in Creationism since I damn well know that isn't true. 😉

Well, if scientists did not have faith in what they were doing, they would not do it. They believe what they are doing is explaining the world as it is. The problem is that the observer and the observation are linked, and that interpretation must take place. The scientist believes that he or she is making the correct one before submitting for publication. That belief, or faith in ones results or interpretation thereof may be flawed. Yet one must believe, or else nothing is put forward.

Faith is more complicated than some would choose to believe.

Not all of science is like that. A lot of it is making a discovery, finding out something that nobody knew about previously.
Not just having an opinion about something and conducting experiments to prove it.

why should i involve myself in a thread where i don't agree with the premises made by either side??

this thread is not the same as the creation thread.

i was just commenting on the general argument of scientist requiring faith.
