Except that didn't happen. The school shut down to figure out wtf to do.But then we'd miss the delicious irony of people responding to their anger with terrorists by acting like them. It's awesome.

But, why would any one even give that particular quote as a homework assignment? Surely there are 100s of other quotes? Seems like some asshat wanted to further infuriate.
Because Christmas isn't responsible for 9/11 and 48 American deaths on our soil since 2001. People aren't that stupid.I like how Islam being taught in school gets that shit shut down instantly, celebrating Christmas, not so much.![]()

But as the week went on, officials got more specific about the source of concern -- calls and email messages -- and their target -- the world geography class.
"The school division began receiving voluminous phone calls and electronic mail locally and from outside the area," the school system said. And the "tone and content" were nasty.
As passions overflow, for fear of their potential effects, Augusta County Schools will remain shuttered over the weekend for all activities.
"Nasty" does not equate to threats of bodily harm. Are you dense?Yeah...keep on making stuff up.
If you can read you can deduce that the schools received threats, which is essentially terrorism.
They didn't close because of threats, they closed to convene on a solution for the problem with 20,000 angry parents putting pressure on them to either fire the teacher or remove that POS homework from the curriculum or both. This isn't a snap decision that can be made under that much pressure. The threats weren't the reason they closed. So you think the entire school district closed...BECAUSE OF NOTHING?
Are YOU that dense? Of course they received threats...

Apparently you missed this the 1st time:
"Some messages to the Virginia school district contained profane and graphic content, including a call to behead the teacher who gave the assignment, Augusta County Sheriff Randy Fisher said."

"Sheriff Randall D. Fisher says security has been assigned to the Bond, the teacher who created the lesson and the school's principal. He says the district received tens of thousands of emails and Facebook posts, some "threatening and very profane in nature."

No, I don't read the toronto sun so I didn't see that. Well, that teacher should probably be given a paid LOA for doing something so stupid in such a hypersensitive muslim climate. I'm surprised they were calling for her head (literally) but she shouldn't be allowed to teach for awhile until the whole thing dies down then.
No the best quote, but teacher probably just pulled something random off the internet 5 mins before class like they do.
Could we just please prosecute the idiots who make terroristic threats in this country? (e.g., beheading the teacher, etc.) Don't send them to jail - just fine them $1000 each & put that money into education or something worthwhile.

Point 1, see post 22.
Point 2, see post 18.
America can be pretty pathetic sometimes. The woman on the CNN video is so typical of what america is full of these days.

The teacher probably didn't even know what that scribble said. The thing was just to try to copy the scribble that was displayed. nothing more. Parents are so fucking stupid these days, and any parent getting worked up over this should be eliminated along with their spawn.
You mean that Christian Fundies need to get over themselves?
As has been pointed out, it was just an exercise in the art of calligraphy. Students were not asked to translate it. It might as well have been a drawing of a dog or an assignment to copy this-

But, of course, haters gotta have somebody to hate & muslim hate is the new black in right wing fashion.
No, I just said fucking stupid idiots. Don't put words in my mouth you douchebag.
Wah. Who else but well propagandized right wing fundie whack jobs would get so twisted?
your parents?
Indoctrination? Really?
"The calligraphy assignment came from a workbook created by teachers called "World Religions." It was not an assignment LaPorte made up herself. The instructions for the assignment said, "Here is the shahada, the Islamic statement of faith, written in Arabic. In the space below, try copying it by hand. This should give you an idea of the artistic complexity of calligraphy."

They were teaching world religions as part of the world geography course. Why is anyone surprised by this?
