I had to deal with this constantly growing up in the D.C. suburbs the govt racial busing made it very hard to not get your ass kicked by a gang of ruthless ghetto children. I got into a number of fights, I was never suspended however the other parties sometimes where. Its par for the course in inner city schools.. whities get there asses handed to them, its sucks! oh and don't ride the bus or make eye contact if you do.
Sucks to be that kid I was stuck in the ER one time for it to get stitches... should have seen the other three guys who attacked me.

Yep, I still remember what things were like at 14. This was pretty much the peak time for fights in high school. At age 14, boys are brimming with hormones at the peak of puberty. I knew lots of people who were getting into fights and crap at that age, they turned out ok. Not saying that these guys are good people, but the idea that 14 year olds are old and mature enough to control their aggression isn't really reasonable in my opinion. There's still time to turn these little bastards around if anyone cares enough to put the time and resources into it, but I doubt that anyone does. Sigh.

Obviously I can't be sure, but there were white kids laughing at the kid getting beat up, so it probably wasn't 100% ratially motivated. Probably said something dumb or isn't in the right "clique". The one kid probably didn't want the other kid sitting next to him and went off. In my book that is no excuse for the kid throwing the punches and then going back for more 5 minutes later. I say Juvenile facility until he is 18 and then let him fuck up on his own and go to prison at that time. But he'll probably get his 10 day suspension (vacation) and that will be that.

Yeah it does suck. When I was 15 I was jumped by 3 Maoris (Maoris, especially in the lower socio-economic areas, have picked up a lot of their culture from African American gang culture). Needless to say, I got my ass handed to me and spent the morning in the ER.
A few years ago (I was 19 or 20) I saw one of them in a bar. He apologized to me for the shit that went down when we were younger. I was really, really surprised by it. We had a beer, we chatted for a few minutes and went our separate ways. As far as I know the other two guys are still delinquents, but at least one of them turned himself around.
Pretty much exactly this. As other posters have pointed out, yes a lot of the graduates in this area don't amount to doing jack shit, if they graduate at all.

Looks like kid sat down in a seat that the other guy wanted all to himself. White kid said something fresh and the beat down ensued.
What bothered me is that the bus driver didn't pull over and immediately call the authorities or for medical attention. Why wait for them to get back to school and have the kids vacate the scene of a crime?
Expulsion is always a last resort punishment because the last thing we need is more thugs growing up without an education. I'd say we should continue to educate those two students.......in juvenile detention. It's heart breaking to see that kind of shit go down with young kids. Even when I was their age and witnessed fights, I always thought they were senseless and saddening. I would literally just walk by a fight and not even care to watch it.

Please... where do you think bus drivers come from? He was the short little black kid about 5 10 years ago.

It sickens me t othe core that the police captain recanted in classifying this as a hate crime. It most definately is one.
How is it wrong? Do you advocate adults fighting over a seat on a bus? If you think fighting is the answer to mundane shit, then you are the one that is a moron. The only time you should be fighting someone is if it's your job and you are in a sanctioned event, ala WWE/MMA ect, or you are fighting for your life.
Fighting over a bus seat shows that some people in our society have yet to come out of the trees.

He never claimed that the fighting was right or good, he claimed that it's hardly fair to expect 14 year olds to be in total control of their aggression/emotions. These are hormone-filled kids, don't you remember what it was like being a teenager? I think these kids are little assholes, I just don't think that the appropriate response to this behavior is to shun/beat/kill/imprison/launch into the sun. If we (as a society) don't start putting the energy into trying to correct kids like this then we'll never break the cycle. If we imprison these little assholes then eventually they'll get out, angrier than ever, and pass the anger on to their own kids.
A lot of guys think they're being big men by being tough on kids who make stupid decisions. I think it takes a bigger man to decide that we can help them, that not every one of these kids is a lost cause. We should put in the effort to change these kids while they're still young, while their minds are malleable, while they're not old enough to be so jaded by a society than shuns them that their attitudes have solidified for life. I'm sure most of ATOT will disagree with me.

grrr, me see two different races fighting, have no other facts, but must be racially motivated. i have concluded, it is now fact. It not possible white kid slept with black kids sister and bragged about it on facebook. Not possible at all. Must be racially motivated. grrr.

One black kid did pull off the first attacker. Another one later also stood in the way to block more attacks after the second was finished. Its too bad neither acted sooner, but at least they did help and deserve credit.
It sounded like a zoo in there with all the hooting and hollering. Kind of like a scene from Planet of the Apes. All we needed was the late, great Charleton Heston to say, "Get your stinkin' paws off me, you damn dirty ape!"
I hope the perps are punished beyond their suspensions and the victim makes a full recovery. I would also like to thank the wonders of modern technology that allows us to view and analyze this attack first hand.

I am not in a position to say whether this was racially motivated, but if I were the victim I'd be more racist after the attack than before, that's for sure. This is a great way to breed racial stereotypes.

Hopefully those future felons will be expelled from school to save taxpayers from the expense of babysitting them through the remainder of their high school years. They will not amount to anything in their lives with or without a high school diploma.
