Yeah it does suck. When I was 15 I was jumped by 3 Maoris (Maoris, especially in the lower socio-economic areas, have picked up a lot of their culture from African American gang culture). Needless to say, I got my ass handed to me and spent the morning in the ER.

A few years ago (I was 19 or 20) I saw one of them in a bar. He apologized to me for the shit that went down when we were younger. I was really, really surprised by it. We had a beer, we chatted for a few minutes and went our separate ways. As far as I know the other two guys are still delinquents, but at least one of them turned himself around.

Damn, cool. Good that he seems to have turned around a bit, and also had the guts to go apologize to you.


Someone did that to me, came back and apologized for making fun of me many years prior. Of course, he'd become a Jehovah's Witness sometime during the years in between, and now had to atone to God for things gone wrong in the past, or some such thing......so something was a bit wonky upstairs with him.

There was clearly no more motivation for the fight other then that kid sat in the wrong seat at the wrong time. Those two kids were looking for a fight. If it wasn't that kid it would've been someone else. They were trying to show their dominance and toughness, which they did not because they picked a fight with someone who was not fighting back. That's not a fight. The fact that others were standing around cheering is more disgusting then the two attackers.

If I were that white kids parents, I would be raising utter hell in the school district.

How is it wrong? Do you advocate adults fighting over a seat on a bus? If you think fighting is the answer to mundane shit, then you are the one that is a moron. The only time you should be fighting someone is if it's your job and you are in a sanctioned event, ala WWE/MMA ect, or you are fighting for your life.
Fighting over a bus seat shows that some people in our society have yet to come out of the trees.

He never claimed that the fighting was right or good, he claimed that it's hardly fair to expect 14 year olds to be in total control of their aggression/emotions. These are hormone-filled kids, don't you remember what it was like being a teenager? I think these kids are little assholes, I just don't think that the appropriate response to this behavior is to shun/beat/kill/imprison/launch into the sun. If we (as a society) don't start putting the energy into trying to correct kids like this then we'll never break the cycle. If we imprison these little assholes then eventually they'll get out, angrier than ever, and pass the anger on to their own kids.

A lot of guys think they're being big men by being tough on kids who make stupid decisions. I think it takes a bigger man to decide that we can help them, that not every one of these kids is a lost cause. We should put in the effort to change these kids while they're still young, while their minds are malleable, while they're not old enough to be so jaded by a society than shuns them that their attitudes have solidified for life. I'm sure most of ATOT will disagree with me.

Correct. The best course of action is to give them a big slice of cake. Of course, we must also tell them that they will be rewarded with cake and ice cream if they don't cause a fight on the bus next time, but they will only get cake if they do fight.

The white kid clearly walked into a tough situation. There were no seats available so he sat in the only one left. Then he was stuck in a cramped space on the bus with nowhere to turn. The two kids who jumped him clearly can not control themselves and need to be separated from society. Hopefully, the police will arrest them and charge them as adults. The other kids who were standing around with big smiles cheering them on need to be disciplined as well. I'd give them a few days suspension at least. F'ing little bastards!
