Would you consider Ranch Dressing to be a pizza topping?

I was voted down as it not being a topping, but my arguement is, if you can put it on top of a pizza (excluding the cheese, sauce, and dough), then it qualifies as a topping.
 
Id say yes, I know plenty of people who slather it on. Is a traditional topping? No but it is a topping commonly used by a lot of people.
 
Uh..do you put ranch dressing on the pizza before you bake it (excluding delivery)?

Because when I think of pizza toppings, I think of ingredients that go on the pizza BEFORE it is put in the oven.
 
before/after baking can be a grey area though... some things like fresh garlic can't really be baked or it turns into roasted garlic. But if it can't count as a topping, when the heck is it? What's parm. cheez and crushed peppers?

I would call those "sides" or "condiments".

I think this is a good point. Go to any pizza place and look at their list of available toppings. Do you ever order a pizza with pepperoni and heavy ranch? No, you order ranch on the side, or marinara on the side.
 
Anything you put on top of a pizza becomes "pizza topping" ... wether you would want to eat it or not is another question!
 
ranch dressing is dressing, it has nothing to do with pizza 😕

Red Onion is the only thing i can think of that fits that

I have had chicken pizzas with a ranch sauce, and used ranch as a dip. Does the sauce count as a topping?

To clarify in regards to the above posts, the ranch sauce is put on the pizzas before baking, just like regular sauce.
 
It depends also on the pizza place... most carry the usual toppings but a local place offers black beans, gruyere cheese, carrots, lettuce, pine nuts, chorizo, halibut, lamb, chipotle sauce, and 100's of other oddities as toppings. REALLY GOOD STUFF.

 
like many people already pointed out, my understanding of a pizza topping is something you add to the pizza BEFORE cooking
anything you add after it comes out of the over is a condiment, a side, or a dressing

BUT
according to the American Heritage Dictionary, a topping is:
A sauce, frosting, or garnish for food.

Ranch dressing on pizza is very good, but I don't know if I would call it a pizza topping.

I could put rat poison on top of a pizza, but I don't think it would count😉

It has to be something "traditionally" put on a pizza prior to baking. I've had pizzas with weird things on them like corn and beans, but I don't think they would count.
