The Dark Crystal

We tried that on the 7 year old a month or two ago, and it was way too much for him. We didn't even get to the part with the crab-robot-monsters.

I'm also awaiting some suggestions...

That's interesting. I watched The Dark Crystal for the first time around that age and while it scared the bejebus out of me, I loved it and never forgot it. One my favourite movies from my childhood for sure.

Sure there's sex and nudity and copious amounts of bloodshed, but hey those are the flicks I grew up watching and I turned out just fine.

Also, they'll be educated on "The Rules of Horror Movies." I.E. the boobalicious cheerleader ALWAYS runs thru the woods naked and gets knifed in the head.

Do it.

Do IT.

DOOOOO ITTTT!

Freddy and Jason at 7 years old? No thanks.

But....but....but....ah damn. I got nuthin'. 😉

Funny; I wouldn't let my 7 year old watch them either (my son is now 12 and knows frickin' everything). BUT I watched all of those...scared the bejeesus out of me. But oh, the boobies were so nice. Mmm. Bouncy boobies. Pretty girls.

It

That is the worst suggestion I have ever heard.

Why? They'd be creeped the fuck out. I wasn't to much older when I first saw the movie.

Speaking of which - Poltergeist.

Thank you Steven Speilberg for lobbying for a PG rating for this movie so I could argue with my mother about getting rid of all the stuffed animals and dolls in the house.

Monster House?

LOL Ironically this is what started the whole discussion with the kid. It's already on the list to watch (his request). Yet again Queasy, our kids need a play date (FYI just picked up a Lego Y-Wing, Gun Ship and Arc fighter... as an added bonus I have the new Death Star sitting here in my office for Christmas present 🙂)

Heh, probably not in this case. 🙂 My son actually doesn't like scary stuff. Even though we have Monster House, he has no desire to watch it. He gets scared just from the Goosebumps commercials. LOL

Well my kid did too. When Monster House first came out I was all gung-ho on seeing it and he would have NOTHING to do with it. This year, I think he's manning up a bit.

Heh. I think if I actually get him to watch a kiddy scary movie he'd probably be ok. He's acting alot like he did with roller coasters. I started him with the kid friendly Goofy rollercoaster at DisneyWorld. Then we moved to the Mine Train. Then we moved to the bigger rollercoasters that he was tall enough for. Just got to find that gateway movie. 🙂

Yeah it was an essential piece of my childhood movie-watching too, which is why I wanted to try it on him. I think my kid is overly sensitive.

Nightmare before Christmas?

OH YEAH!!! DUH!!

Keep em coming!

There was another movie similar to it that Burton did. Didn't see it and don't remember the name though.

James and the Giant Peach. It's a good one.

Goosebumps episodes would be good, too, or Are You Afraid of the Dark.

I stand by my suggestion. Haven't gotten around to watching Corpse Bride yet... even though I've had the DVD for rather a while now. I should do that soon.
