Thinking about other people who might fit the role

Perhaps Rooney Mara? she's young enough. The movie aged the character up from the manga.

based on her look in Girl with the Dragon tattoo she can fit the look of the anime character pretty well and seems to be a decent enough actor.

Which GITS are we using though? The original movie, the manga, 2nd GIG, Arise? She's also a cyborg so she could be anything.

The real question is why are they making a live action GITS before Appleseed or Tank Police!

If directed or produced by Steven Spielberg, expect aliens.

Are people really incapable of reading 3 sentences? ffs...
Oh well, you did say produced. No way he isn't going to be a producer. It's his studio. :p

anyway: Johansson > that any woman to come out of Japan or China or Korea, so...there.

I'm going to say it's a bad fit as well. If you've seen the movie and the series, it's not a good fit.

Also, I don't think this is a good movie to try to adapt. It is an anime film in its purest. It will not work for live action.

Spielberg is mentioned because of Dreamworks. He will certainly have producer credits, but he is not writing or directing.

My bad.

In my defence, bringing up a name like "Stephen Spielberg" in connection to a franchise I love is likely to bring me out in hives. :)

---

What I find really strange is how there seems to be so much focus on an actress's looks in order to determine their suitability for the role (with a potential implication of therefore how good the movie is going to be). Without further information, I'm more worried that a Hollywood interpretation of the original Ghost in the Shell movie would have the "Puppet Master" as an end-bloke style character a la "all your base are belong to us".

Why does that matter? Michael Bay can just know the guy making it and people freak out about a "Michael Bay movie".

Are you surprised? This is the internet after all. These guys watch Transformers movies for explosions boobies and cartoons for the potential of seeing naked cartoon boobies, and scream about feminism in their world of games.

Do you think they can consider anything beyond how a woman looks, when it comes to her value in any given role?

:D

yeah, it's a fair point. In defense of Spielburg, though, he tends to back off for the most part when it comes to his producing roles.

Unlike someone like Lucas: ever wonder where the monkey-swing through the vines in Indiana Jones 4 came from? :D

Same people who get outraged over the potential casting of a black Spiderman. The horror! :D

Nerds are fucking annoying. I'm a nerd, but not to the extent of most "argue everything to death and bitch about the most trivial bullshit imaginable" Internet nerds.

Watch it and you'll swear he was on the set every day, directing.

Yeah, because you should never think about finding a good actor who does look like the source materials' appearance.

I do recall mentioning that the person I mentioned seems to be a good actor. I said seems to be because I've seen only one movie in which she had a role in and she was good and so was the movie.
Are you surprised? This is the internet after all. These guys watch Transformers movies for explosions boobies and cartoons for the potential of seeing naked cartoon boobies, and scream about feminism in their world of games.

that's a good point but not everyone who plays videogames or develops for videogames does that... although admittedly I watched the first Transformers movie in theaters and didn't bother with the rest.

the following quote actually sums up my view about video games.

And so... you can have these arguments; they are worth having.
What should our art look like?
Should our art include the category of things we traditionally call videogames?
I would argue that they should.
But if you want to disagree with Roger Ebert.
If you want to win the argument; that videogames should be considered art.
You necessarily have to let other artists into the mix
You necessarily have to let other kinds of criticism into the mix.

So when feminists critique Michael Bay movies you don't get
redacted
What You get is people being like "ugh, it's happening again." and then lots of people watch Michael Bay movies.
When feminists critique videogames...
What you get is you get is
redacted

And that is the problem.
That's the whole circle of the problem is that the people who believe that this is their identity and these publications belong to them...
are refusing to understand and they're refusing to accept; that the circle should get wider.

~snip~

And there is a wrong side [of the arguments], and the wrong side is being a dick to people over the internet.

There were some threads about videogames and "certain discussions" about them in another section of the forums which were locked twice before they finally found a home on P&N where being a dick is still somewhat encouraged... :p

my last post, or one of the last, in those before it became apparent that it's not at all worth spending time posting in those threads unless I develop for videogames was this...

I'm curious as to how the Tachikomas are going to be portrayed in the live action film, they were a fairly large part of the anime.

Of course the could do like Starship Troopers and the powered armor and just do away with them.
