I am selling an 8gb Ipod Tocuh 3rd Gen that is unopened on Ebay.

Today I got a "question" from some potential buyer that said the following: "Would you consider selling your iPod today for $185.00? I live in _________ MA, so I could actually pick it up. Would like to give this to my daughter for Christmas."

To me, $185 seems amazing, almost too good to be true. Which is one reason why I question this. If I were to let the auction run out I don't think I would be getting $185. Additionally, this guy has 0 Feedback on Ebay.

I'm not really sure what the terms would be if he did decide to buy this, like if he would bring cash to my house (VERY SKETCHY) or if I'd relist as Buy It Now and he would make a PayPal payment before coming. Somehow, I think that this has to be a scam. Either he is going to come to my house and assrape me or I'm not going to get any money.

Thoughts?

You can always cancel the auction and see if the buyer will pay the $185, if not re-list the item. Don't allow the buyer come to your house, meet him/her at a public location, like Starbucks.

If the buyer is going to Paypal you first, I would suggest contact Paypal immediately thereafter and verify the funds are legit before you release the merchandise over or insist on cash for pickup.

If he brings an envelope with cash to you and pays the $185, it's not a scam.
If he brings an envelope with newspaper clippings to you and pays with them, it's a scam.

Here's another tip. If you go outside and you notice that you seem to be getting wet, look up. If your face gets even wetter, it's raining.

No it wasn't a silly question, it was a fucking stupid question. If he hands you cash in a public place, how in any fucking way can it be a scam?

God damn, people are getting more and more paranoid by the day.

This was before we had established any sort of meeting in person thing, so I was wondering if this would be the type of thing that might turn into a scam if he did want to go the paypal route and then pick it up in person.

Why in the world would you take Paypal if you were meeting him in person?

There's no such thing as an 8GB "third gen" iPod Touch (contrary to what retailers tell you).

The SKU that retailers refer to as "8GB 3rd gen" is actually a 2nd-gen device with 3.0 operating system.

It's performance and capabilities are comparable to an iPhone (1) and iPhone 3G (the first two iPhones had identical CPU and RAM).

An actual iPod Touch 3rd Gen (32GB+) is comparable in performance to an iPhone 3GS (pretty nice).

Because you misrepresented the product, YOU'RE THE "SCAMMER!"

People really ask questions like these? I used to meet people when I sold things on ebay all the time when I was like 12.

Interesting. Even Amazon lists a 3rd gen 8gb Ipod Touch.

I have what is known as a 3rd gen 8gb Touch as well. It sure as hell isn't a 2nd.

There is no such thing as a "3rd-gen" 8GB. I'm serious. All retailers *call* it a "3rd gen 8GB" because it comes with 3.0 software.

APPLE DOES NOT CALL IT "3RD GEN 8GB" BECAUSE THERE'S NO SUCH THING.

There are lots of Bluetooth features that your 8GB "3rd gen" doesn't support. It also doesn't have the improved CPU, memory, and 3D capabilities of the 3rd gen. It's a 2nd-gen device that came with 3.0 software. That's exactly what Apple says.

Look here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1353

Apple's own table says 3rd gen is only available with 32GB or 64GB capacity.

Now, it's up to you to stop the retailer misinformation from spreading further.

just don't pick meeting by the restrooms at the local dog park around 7pm.

Some chick got raped meeting a guy off ebay that "noticed she lived locally and he was looking for a iPod".

This is not something I heard on the internet, it's the park I go to.
