I have been reading some reviews of this game and some comment on the poor performance while others don't mention it at all. It's hard to tell whether the other reviews are simply ignoring this or the problem is specific to certain computer configurations.

Mine worked flawlessly.

C2D 2.13Ghz
1900XT
2Gb DDR2-800

It worked great and now that ive OCed my C2D to 3.2 its even better.

Though i did try this with the retail game straight away and not with the demo, it could be just the demo...

I had my graphics all set to the highest as well and it never ran slow except for some really complicated scenes.

What resolution is that on and what kind of framerates are you generally getting?

I had the resolution at its highest, meaning it was 1280x1024, i dont know if its drivers or the game but there is no widescreen support...

I will try my best to get back to you on the FPS, ill try to get the complicated scenes in there as well.

Tried the demo, had glitches all over the place, didn't have AA....this game is far from amazing so far. I was really interested in it from hearing how they tried to really grip you with the story line, but a game today without AA is just absolutely retarded and not worth buying.

Apply the patch they have available. (If you have the full version)

They added AA support in the patch.

I only had the demo, but if the retail version can use AA with SM3.0 I might reconsider.

Do they allow AA while using SM3.0 with the patch you speak of and the retail version?

I can confirm this 100% that AA can be used with HDR and SM3.0. Worked flawlessly also. Ill try to get some screenshots of with and without AA also so you can have a look.

Does the patch do anything about the performance?

From what i can remember performance didnt seem to be any different, though this could be me and i didnt notice it, or i just cant remember it now. But as again ill try to get back with some numbers and screenshots.

Gotta run, will be back in a few hours with the data.

Hell, performance with SLI is sh!t too.

I created a SLI profile (w/AFR) and then used nHancer to set the bits to around what SCCT had, plus the 2 for the unreal engines.

That gave me optimal performance and by optimal I mean under 20FPS all the time. Thats at 1680x1050, 4xAA/8xAF.

What options would give me the biggest performance gain?

More worthless console ports that dont utilize PC hardware properly. Why dont they fck off and keep console and pc games seperate or at least spend more time optimizing the code to work on PC hardware with good frame rates. People need to stop buying these games!

Because that's where the money are.. In console game development..
Wait until U3,UT2K7,Crysis,Alan Wake and most importantly some d3d10 titles are here.. Console my arse..
Blurry worthless and AA "free" sexboxes and PS3s, that worth less than my video card and have not even half the power of my gpu..

P.S : I'm so nasty today why ? :p

Cool, thanks. We have similar cards, so if it's running okay for you it's either only a demo issue or something is wrong with my setup.

This is true, but I think it's part of a trend we have been getting with PC games in general. It really seems like every game coming out these days has a bloated engine, regardless of whether or not it's a console port.

In this case, they could have used exactly the same engine as Chaos Theory and it would still have been one of the best looking games out, but they had to go and screw it up. :(

No widescreen support? Doesn't it make supreme sense for an Xbox 360 port to have widescreen support? Particularly a game that has 1080i support in X360?

Game developers are weird.

Yes its been like this for the past year or so. FEAR is a good example, it is a stunning looking game when looking in the right direction, but i dont think it justifies the awfull performance on at the time the most powerfull cards! I cant get it to run very well @ 16000 x 1200 on a 512MB X1800XT. I paid £375 for it at launch, its hardly a mainstream price and thus the reason i paid the money; so i could game at high resolution. GRAW was another engine that was bloated to $hit! Although i thoroughly enjoyed its single play campaign and i did get it to run at a decent 40fps with a little tweaking, so i am going to forgive it for this becuase it was a true PC game at heart and played like one. I dont belive in playing games with crap performance with cheap console gameplay.

We should take our hats off to Valve for coding an excellent game powered by a well optimized engine. I just hope there is enough interest (at least in the west) to develop great PC only titles. I do belive the eastern europeans are more intrested in developing for PC only, especially in places like Russia. Although most of the titles are extremely amateur.

I am a bit of a PC snob, but i like my hardcore gameplay. Ive been into FPS games for 10 years, using the mouse is second nature and something feels painfully wrong when using the pad to aim, its like trying to drive a car with the sticks they use in tanks! Anyway this is not the point of my post.
Console games are fine on consoles, but they dont belong on PC.
