1. Im not seeing the info, can someone provide a direct link for me?
2. How do you know how far away you are from an RT?

Go to www.yahoo.com and click the link for SBC Yahoo DSL the rate now shows up as 1.5-3.0/384 for $44.95

If your on a RT you will need to call in and place your order that way, could also go over to http://www.dslreports.com/forum/ilec,am and ask a tech to check for you, those guys are great over there.

Sweet, I'm close enough to the RT, will get my upgrade within 24 hours.

They even gave me a credit for a month of service for December when they fvcked me out of service for a week...

Will I be able to nef X3 faster now?

i called and got in..the guy said he couldnt input it as 1.5-3 so he put it in as 1.5-6 and said that maybe they wont change it....apparently im on fiber so the distance to the swith or RT didnt matter i should be seeing close to the top speeds according to the CSR

I used to have SBC DSL as my first BB connection. My house line is terrible so I got pretty slow and unrealiable service since it was down a few hours everyday.

you sure this isnt too good to be true? take a look at the fine print

*You will also be charged a monthly FUSF cost recovery fee to help cover charges from our data transport supplier pursuant to state and federal telecom regulations. This fee is not a tax or government required charge. Must be new subscriber to order online. Offer requires a one-year term agreement. After the expiration of this term agreement, the then-current month-to month or applicable term price will apply. The regular monthly price for the service and a separate activation fee of $50.00 will appear on the first bill along with any corresponding and offsetting credits. Offer is available for a limited period of time and is subject to change without notice. Early termination fee of $200 applies if service is cancelled before expiration of term. Pricing is based on customer self-installation on an existing SBC telephone line. Minimum additional charge of $150-$200 applies if subsequent technician install is required or desired. Further details provided during enrollment and registration. Service not available in all areas. Billing begins on service activation date.

just beware, their customer service is horrid. i was supposed to get upload speed upgrade months ago:(

Yep, I have my own horror stories about SBC.

I can see it now, "Mr. Pliablemoose, we're sorry, we thought what you meant when you said you wanted to upgrade your DSL line that you wanted a seperate phone line & our new dial up service. We're sorry, but it'll take 2 months to even put it back the way it was, and BTW, forget about the speed upgrade, even though your house is right next to a RT. Is there anything else we can do to provide you excellent customer service?"

heh yea, i got emails about the upgrade. buut when i call, the cs person talks to two managers supposedly that have not heard of such a thing, yet its all over broadbandreports.com forums for was that dslreports.com bah.. either way, pathetic.

In a year they will have a new plan that you can sign up for and the fee is the shipping fee for the modem I believe.

If your getting service from a RT then you should be able to get it.

Wow SBC is actually getting better :)

Notice: It's rate adaptive so you may only get 3000/384...buyer beware.

WTF? Isn't SBC DSL? I thought the technology behind DSL couldnt support more than 1500/1500 without some kind of adaptive compression.

The max download for DSL is 8 megabits, they did create a light version called G-lite which was 1.5 megabits. Most ADSL modems can do either standard so they won't need to send a new modem out to you. The max upload is less then 1 megabit.

You are correct on the Max Download for the DSLAMs and most Modems is 8 Meg.

The DSL standard howerever for Full Rate adaptive is 1 Meg upstream. Most of the DSL Modem Manufacturers chose to take the cheap route and did not make their Modems Full Rate Adaptive so they max out at 800K upstream which does NOT fully meet the DSL Standard Spec.

The Zoom series of DSL Modems are however Full Rate Adaptive and do 1 Meg Upstream.

I posted this very fact on BBR yesterday and then today SBC backed down on their promotion of 6 Meg down 1 Meg up to 6 Meg down and 604K up.

That is because now they realize the Modems they ship out to their Customers stop at 800K, Ooops!!!

That's what happens when Customers don't have a choice in what equipment they want to run.

Marketing apparently didn't check with Engineering first before trying to compete with Cable head to head.

You should never lose a DSL sync signal.

Did you try a different Modem Brand?

My SBC DSL line tested over 5000, 3 yrs ago when DSL service became available here, so I qualify for this service level. But, I would have to give up my `bridged` connection. When I talked to the rep just the other day, they wont allow anything but PPPoE now, so new hardware would be needed etc.... Never used PPPoE, is it all that bad anymore?? guess I'll stay `stuck` at 1500/256.........

A router and PPPoE is usually pretty good and with SBC my PPPoE login session have lasted for a month or longer. Sometimes there are outages but with the router doing the automatic re-login you don't notice them.

routers and pppoe for DSL is the only way to go. i simply hate using the logon from windows and then having a stupid firewall up.

in regards to 6000bps connects I suppose it's possible for now. I was getting 2000 for a while until other's started subscribing to DSL.

Then they started metering. That's the way it usually works.

If you are in a low use area you'll probably hang on to that for a while unless someone keeps calling in complaining they get only 3K some days. :)

Is the $44.95 offer available to current subscribers too?
Let's hope that it does not go back to 139.95/month, billing CSR say that it will stay at 44.99 forever till you change plan which IMO is cool!

but if it does go back to 139.95, you know who to talk to right?
SBC is pretty good at correcting their mistake if you're willing to work with them and take time to talk on the phone.

Can you say stingy or maybe even cheap? but you know the sad thing is that if she see something she like and cost like 500, 1k etc she would buy it without thinking twice! yep, just like me mother, it sucks to be like that.

Instead of SBC spending their money on highly bandwidth for current customers, they should be freakin' installing more RTs! They said tehy were installing an RT near me a looooong ass time ago! :|

I'm pretty confused by all of this, so I'm going to just ask a simple question.

I'm 2766 feet from the CO, how do I get 6000/608 for $45?

yea i knew about this, NOTE if you are already a sbc dsl customer and you switch to this plan you must start a NEW 1yr contract to do so, you old one won't count anymore so no cancellation fee but you must commit ANOTHER yr

i wanted to so badly when i heard about this last week i had to change my pants
but now im crying because im 10,000ft away from my CO, where are the RT's in San Diego/La jolla area...
