If your getting service from a RT then you should be able to get it.

Wow SBC is actually getting better :)

Notice: It's rate adaptive so you may only get 3000/384...buyer beware.

Update: 2-5-2004

1. You need to be 7500 feet from the CO or RT to qualify for the 3000/384 package which will be 6000/608 if your line is good

2. 6000/608 are the sync rates so expect around 5.3 megabits down and 500kbps up

3. People on RT's will have to wait longer probably cause they need to actually visit the RT to make changes to increase the Download speed from what I've been told.

I'll have to check into this. Right now I get 1.5 mbps/256 kbps for $49 :(

[edit] Do you have a direct link? I'm not seeing the info.

Only? :Q

Well it is sold as a 1.5-3.0/384 but the techs are saying that is only a marketing grade cause it will sync up to 6.0 if your line can do it. So it's actually 1.5-6.0/608 but distance and quality become issues so who knows what you end up with.

PS: I'm 500 feet from my RT so I'm good to go.

Hmmm.. the site says the month-to-month charge is $139.95, but it's $44.95 per month for a one year commitment. I wonder if that means the charge would go back up to $139.95 after one year, or do you get the option to commit for another year? Also, what if we already have DSL? Is the $44.95 offer available to current subscribers too?

Over at dslreports.com people were calling in and upgrading and some said that the 44.95 was permanent after the 1 year is up.

Cool... I'm calling them then. This deal will give me a minimum of 2X my current speeds for $5 less :)

i'm all over this like a fly on poop.

Sweet... lowered my bill as well. I was paying $59.95 for 1.5 down, 256 up. My service should be changed over on monday, 2-9, or sooner. I will be getting 1.5-6 mbps down (i live 2 blocks from an RT), and 384 up (might be moved to a higher upload on dslreports).

All for $44.99

They want you as a customer for life to get that 44.95 deal. Who would be crazy enough to pay 139.95 for month-month would be insanely expensive and man hopefully I won't be moving anytime soon either.
5 years down the road i still be using SBC 6mbit/608, i'm close to RT btw and be saying holy cows! still smokes RR/Comcast, LOL.

I'm hoping I can get in on this. I currently use Cox Express which is 1024/128 for $40 a month which I've been happy with. 1.5/384 minimum would be a nice step up.

Yep, I have my own horror stories about SBC.

I can see it now, "Mr. Pliablemoose, we're sorry, we thought what you meant when you said you wanted to upgrade your DSL line that you wanted a seperate phone line & our new dial up service. We're sorry, but it'll take 2 months to even put it back the way it was, and BTW, forget about the speed upgrade, even though your house is right next to a RT. Is there anything else we can do to provide you excellent customer service?"

WTF? Isn't SBC DSL? I thought the technology behind DSL couldnt support more than 1500/1500 without some kind of adaptive compression.

1. Im not seeing the info, can someone provide a direct link for me?
2. How do you know how far away you are from an RT?

The max download for DSL is 8 megabits, they did create a light version called G-lite which was 1.5 megabits. Most ADSL modems can do either standard so they won't need to send a new modem out to you. The max upload is less then 1 megabit.
