Say goodbye to the American software programmer.

Some experts think they'll become extinct within the next few years, forced into unemployment or new careers by a combination of offshoring of their work to India and other low-wage countries and the arrival of skilled immigrants taking their jobs.

All the more reason to increase your qualifications and knowledge in programming, because even though you can outsource the bulk of the work, you're still going to need consultants and people that can fix immediate bugs on hand.

Fear-mongering. Just today on another forum I was reading about IT guys saying how they felt that the trend to outsource would slow because in all their personal experience the stuff they've outsourced to India and the likes has come back crap. I've had the same experience myself. A company saves money up front and then blows more fixing sh*te code.

God i love throwin away 40k on an education that i wont be able to use. Once again thank you president bush for not doing anything to protect american jobs and big FU to you and all your greedy coporate buddies.

hate to say this but i saw it coming.... whether it would be saturation from too many people going into the field from our country or a different one doesnt matter. Its why I never devoted myself to programming because a) job market wasnt going to be good getting out college b) im not gonna do something I dont like even though I was good at it.

although I can say this for the CG Field too. Schools are pumping out artists by the truckload. it sucks.

Ohh please they are just as good as anyone in this country and much cheaper.

Big deal. Times and markets change. How many barrel makers and blacksmiths are there in your neighborhood? This has been "head in the sand" overlooked reality of the globalization of markets for at least a decade and has finally come home to roost. Adapt and change with the times or become extinct. This has happened time and tme again over the course of history for centuries.

Local busines will always be there. Larger companies are more prone to do some sort of out sourcing.

A bigger concern is this H-1B visa.

Because it's all Bush's fault that businesses want to save money wherever possible!

BTW, wrong forum.

You didn't throw away anything. 😉

And government jobs will probably not be outsourced for quite a while. 🙂

They will NOT replace american jobs

They can only add variety

Those are located in India, so hindi is their primary language. It's just not the same doing business inside the same country and meeting someone at leisure. To meet someone in India, you have to fly over there or fly here unless you want a webcam interface. That is just one of the few things, many cultural differences too.

That is an ignorant post that they are just as good as anyone and cheaper, really, it is. I'm Indian and I support outsourcing a lot, even my research paper I turned in yesterday we supporting it.

If someone can do your job better than you and can get an H1B visa to be here to do it why shouldn't they?

I work with 2 kids on H1B visas and let me tell you they work harder and are smarter than almost anyone they could have hired out of school.
