I liked them when they first came out. I thought it would have been a much cooler car if it was bigger with RWD and a V8 (like a modern '38 sedan). At the time they were great because they were different than everything out on the road. Chrysler ran it into the ground by never updating it. It needed a complete refresh about 4 years ago. I still think a small wagon/hatch has a sizeable market.

Am still amazed that all these professional finance councilers are giving away free advice in an online forum.

I made a comment about Circuit City's business practices in another thread. You should go find it and bash that, too.

And you would be right. It'd be like an old Edsel or something. It'd be like an old school train running down the road with serious V8 muscle.

The PT wasn't/isn't as bad as the Dodge Caliber...to me that's the ugliest car ever made

Some people just have bandwagon hate for American cars. Slap a Toyota, Honda, or Nissan emblem on it and the PT Cruiser will be dubbed "MOST BRILLIANT DESIGN OF THE DECADE!!!!111111".

It isn't that terrible of a car in terms of utility.

LOL!

I have a PT Cruiser and other than the fact that the engine is too weak it's not a bad car. I got a washing machine home from the store in it, let's see you do that in any other small car.

I guess it just had a classic look that Ricer Boiiiiiiiz can't appreciate.

Really? So the Cruiser is uglier than the Honda Fit or Element or anything by Scion aka Toyota? Talk about fugly, Honda and Toyota are right up there with the worst designs ever.

When Chrysler first released the prototype for the PT Cruiser, I thought "OK, kind of cool in a "retro-50's panel truck" kind of way...but FUGLY."

I only drove one...and hated it from the minute I first got in the dammed thing. Too small for my fat ass...too underpowered for freeway use, poorly designed and cheaply built.
Good Riddance.

You're talking to Evident. If you read his other car posts, you'd think American car companies wronged his ancestors or something like that. :D

The PT Convertible is the most hideous thing ever to ride on wheels. The regular one looks alright, but Chrysler has been making some terrible cars over the past couple of decades (Viper and Ram notwithstanding, and some of their Minivans have been good).

The thing I don't get about Chrysler, is that they take a decent-selling car that could use some improvement (Neon), and replace it with a horrible-selling, horrible-driving, just horrible piece of carbage like the Caliber. And then they take a previously decently stylish coupe like the Avenger, which could have been a winner had they modernized it, made it more reliable/sporty, and priced it right, and they make it into what amounts to a slightly larger Caliber, but 110% as crap. And in their infinite wisdom, they release a 4,200lb land tank with a $40k price tag that gets owned by Mustang GTs costing $10k less. Oh, the misery that is Chrysler.

I'm no PT Cruiser fan, but it really seems that a lot of people do like them. It would have done them well to make a new gen of it, with similar styling and improved quality (road noise, handling, fuel economy, options, etc).

THEY ARE FUCKING ALLERGIC TO PROFIT AND LOGIC.

I had a friend put his name on the waiting list when they first came out. He was so stoked, he was gonna use it for cruising for chicks. I started calling it the 'Poontang Cruiser' to mock him. I think it's very funny who the clientele for that car REALLY is, considering the nickname I gave it.

I loved that car. But I like all cars with massive head room including effeminate beattle. Comfort>Style and new cars today are too chopped at the top for sexy looks.

as a related note:
I almost bought an LS460 until I couldn't fit in the damn thing unless seat was back pimp style with only my fingertips touching wheel. So I bought another Town Car. Sorry guys once they look though the glass I no have ability to impress 22 year old women anymore so comfort is key.

The worst part is you are buying a Chrysler (when owners, Cerebus have 10B in the bank) anyway with 4B bailout.

I like the PT, T&C, 300, Durango and their Trucks and Vans - everything else is shit.

While the Fit is certainly not a a work of art, it's pretty unremarkable but for the ass-ugly rear end. However, in it's defense it's I do think it's a far more versatile and utilitarian car than the others in its class (Toyota Matrix, Mini Cooper, Chevy Aveo, Nissan Versa).

I can stand the looks, they tend to grow on you after a while.
But man are they piles of crap mechanically.
My GF's PT has just under 60k miles on it and needs tons of work, clutch throw out bearing is starting to go, front suspension is completely shot (ball joints, tie-rod ends and struts all need replacing, not to mention the wheel bearings/spindles were replaced at 40k miles ) and the rear brakes are screwed up in some fashion.
If she didn't love the thing so much I would of had her dump it long ago. :(

haha, not true. I may be a honda fan, and a chrysler hater, i think that gm and ford have lots of good upcoming products. i also hate the brainwashed 'patriotism by buying car' BS that's been forced down our throats lately.

However, they do actually have some cool features. It would be a good camping vehicle.
