I hadn't heard about this. Just flew out of there earlier this month too. Lindberg Field is a tricky airport to land at with a healthy aircraft... not really anywhere else you could divert to though in that situation other than a military airfield.

It is a tricky landing strip. You can go right into the water if your not careful. LOL!

Pretty wild to witness that happen.
The modern twin transports have the most excess performance and do very well on one, so it is not terribly trying to get back.
The older airplanes were a bit more trouble. Oddly enough the 4 engine planes have lesser performance with 1 engine shut down, by comparison.
There are some harrowing stories about long over water flights not far above the wave tops, back in the piston transport heyday. The only way they made it was flying in ground effect just above the sea.

Have you heard of VATSIM? I'm a member. You fly with real people acting as air traffic control. You talk to ground for request to depart from the gate, taxi to the runway, take off, transition to the control tower, transition to departure, all the way to landing and contacting tower. Emergencies are supported so long as ATC allows it.

I don't know gentleman. I have been simming for 6 years on an average of 2 hours a day each and every day which is a minimum of 4,380 hours most of that flying a PMDG 737 NG. I bet, just bet that if I got the opportunity to jump into a real life 737 NG simulator I could take off and land. Just give me weight and fuel inputs for the FMC so I know VREF for take off and land. I have seen kids in simulators on YouTube fly in simulators. It's all about experience. It's like riding a bike once you do it so many times it becomes second nature. So making quick second decisions shouldn't be a problem. Experience, experience, experience!

Not trying to brag, but there are some pretty smart people out there who sim and have the capabilities to fly a real life simulator.

I made this video a while back with no fancy add-ons. DIA was one of the few upgrades I installed at the time. Audio is kinda crappy due to Windows Movie Maker that was used. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cz5S2HWtAT8

If I told her that I would be jailed.

Though that would have more to do with your outstanding warrants than with her being in her 20s.

Look friend, the thing is nobody here cares about how fantastic your simulator is; it isn't real life, you aren't a real commercial pilot, and it's as simple as that.

I mean...I spend a couple hours a day playing Bloons TD5. Does that mean I'm a dart wielding monkey pirate (please say yes...please say yes)?

The ignorance is ripe here. No one will read about Prepar3D.

I am sure many in the Flight Sim world already know about it.

The fact is flight sim time <> motion flight sim time behind real controls <> real FLIGHT time.

Training meets reality with Lockheed Martin’s Prepar3D® simulation software. Private pilots, commercial organizations, militaries and academia rely on Prepar3D for immersive, experiential learning.

Prepar3D (pronounced “prepared”) is a visual simulation platform that allows users to create training scenarios across aviation, maritime and ground domains. Users can train anywhere in the virtual world, from underwater to sub orbital space.

Prepar3D furthers the development of Microsoft® ESP™ while maintaining compatibility with Microsoft Flight Simulator X, allowing many thousands of add-ons to be used within Prepar3D.
Not a real sim with movement by no means, but like I stated already the controls are all there

what the hell is it with people commenting on real pilots doing real things with replies on what they did in a video game?

Do they not realize how stupid it makes them sound?

how do you think pilots practice when they're not actually flying a plane?

Ya, well I play fps games all the time. So I guess I'm a navy seal.
