If the grapes come in a package; you are paying for the package. The package can have 100 grapes or 10; you still are paying for the package.

If it was bulk grapes or they then put the package back on the counter; then you have a justifiable complaint.

From the OP description using the word "bag" and in pre-packaged - Sand Eagle looks like making a big deal over nothing.

should i have said something to them or to management? i hope security busts them on the way out

I have no issue with people stealing food - but only if they "need" the food.

There is a difference in stealing food because you are hungry, and stealing food just because you do not want to pay for it.

If someone is hungry, let them eat.

the grapes are sold per pound. :colbert: heaven forbid you ever agree with me on anything :\

its the same as those that drink soda while shopping and pay for the empty can. its stealing. there are stories of folks getting arrested for this 'habit'

Grapes are one of the most inconsistent fruits out there. They almost force you to sample by puttting out so many sub-standard grapes.

Nope.

I buy grapes almost every week and never "sample" I mean steal them

1) that's not why grape prices are high
2) why didn't you call security on them, stop being spineless

1) $2.99 lb. that is grape rape. stealing causes prices to go up.

2) might of been one of my uncles or cousins. couldnt do that to a fellow indian. you, otoh, i'd report

Well no, its not the same. If you eat the grapes while shopping, then pay for them, you're paying less for the weight than you would have if you had not been eating them. At least with a soda can you're still paying the unit price.

You aren't in a position to make that statement unless you are the shop owner. Hungry or not, they are still stealing. If the person is hungry, send them to a soup kitchen or food pantry, they are all over the place.

As a Christian,

Proverbs 6:30

do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

Stealing from a shop is no different from them snatching it out of your hands right after you bought it. They should ask/beg if they need it and offer to work for it. FAILING that, then we should not "despise" them for, say, taking fruit off your tree, for example. Taking without asking or offering to earn it is despicable.

I see elderly people do this all the time along with upper middle aged WASP women - the elderly either don't see or ignore my raised eyebrows, the WASPs at least sniff in disdain and walk away.

+1.

It's wal-mart.... I'm surprised someone eating grapes was the craziest thing you saw. I end up having to wal mart about once a year, and every time there is something absolutely absurd going on.

You're such a racist. They prefer to be called Native Americans.

And everyone knows Indians don't eat grapes.
