We have tons of cars here in northern Kahleeforneeya (bay area) with Hawaiian plates...(way too many with Mexican plates too!)

I've seen a guy with Hong Kong plates.

it won't fit though right? Euro and Asia's plates are slimmer and wider... usually won't fit the bracket in "USDM" cars.

anyways, I have also seen someone put emblem "Bora" and "Shanghai First Auto" on his Jetta. (Jettas in China are called "Boras", and Shanghai First Auto is the makers of Bora in collaboration with VW) i thought that was funny for a sec.

Having worked near a NATO facility, they manage it somehow.

he probably just did a plate transfer from a car he had back in hawaii to his car he got in the states. its easier sometiems to just transfer a plate than it is to get a new one with new registration and all that. you can keep renewing your old tags with them transferred pretty easily. had a teacher in HS that had georgia plates and she just kept renewing it and nothing was ever said about it.

My state requires you to get IL tags within 90 days, and it is enforced. I guess if the person was still a permanent HI resident they might get by, but if they ever got pulled over with an IL drivers license they would get a warning/ticket.

I've seen a civic with omg j-spec type r stickers, twin dragon exhaust, and a uber wing that had a license plate from japan.

possibly a military person? military will always ship a car rather than wait for you to sell it or buy it off of you

Huh?
After doing some reading, it looks like they will ship all sorts of stuff.

Didn't know that.

most likely military, they pay for the shipping both ways when you get stationed in certain places, like HI and guam for example

They might be a Recruiter for one of the branches. Their SO maybe from IL which would be why they would be recruiting outside of a area they are from.

Wrap your minds around this..

I live in Alaska, and there's cars here with Hawaii plates! A couple different ones I've seen, so far. From one detached state, to the other detached state.
