I had a buddy who used to brag about his Vette all the time...
of course, he never told anyone it was a Che-Vette.

Heh.. That's been going for a while now. If I only had $49K to spend.. I've ridden in a LPE 427 TT and it's mind blowing.

My friend just bought a Z06 which does 0-60 in 4 seconds...why spend the price of another Corvette just to get an extra .7 seconds less?

How much money do you think i would have to spend to make 800hp???? Hint...not a lot...lol...not to mention the traction problems with anything over 500hp. Just my two N/A cents.

I also own a 1987 Corvette Coupe and for $3000 you bought it off of someone who needed to pay off a drug debt, it is in horrible shape, it is high mileage, or some other whacky reason. '87s just aren't YET being had for that cheap. Had you said an '84 I would agree it is possible.

Stock that car should be making if still in good tune 240hp & 350ft/lb (although mine on the dyno proved to be 255hp & 380 ft/lb before I did any modifications). Is it the 700R4 or 4+3 transmission? It should be running in the 13.9-14.2 range stock with decent street tires, a good track and a driver who knows their vehicle shifting around 4200 to maximize the TPI's torque.

So for $3000 you claim you added 260hp and run 11s. What did you do? Nitrous kit, full exhaust, super or miniram, TC if its an auto, heads & cam & drag radials of some type. Or you convert it to a carb? Thats nice and all as my own is capable of 540bhp and over 600 ft/lb of torque with a similar combination to what i just stated and I haven't even finished the tuning yet on the ECM. With that said an C4 modified to that level is NOWHERE near what that LPE vehicle is. NOWHERE.

Because that Z06 only tops out ~173mph (gear limited) and that TT is going to slam you past 200mph. HP required to go fast with the big dogs goes up at an exponential rate.

So what do YOU drive?

The corvette is still freaking ugly...they need to figure out how to slim up that HUGE J-LO @$$. The only american sports car that is worth looking at is the Dodge Viper...ESPECIALLY the 99-02 models the smooth curves and aggressive look put the Corvette and many foreign cars to shame...OH and the stock 4 second 0-60 time isnt bad either.

RIP Lingenfelter.
Car and Driver did a nice blurb on him, and i remember a few years back when they reviewed a yellow vette he did, the package price was no where near that price, i believe it was about half that much, and the car did 0-60 in 4 in only first gear, coulda been faster but he geared it towards top speed of about 225 i think..
sweet.

Are you kidding me? Corvettes are one of the most distinctive cars on the market. They look sooooo hot.

Well, it also depends on what you want to do with your car. Drag / Autox / Road racing all require different setups. Though, the stock Z06 holds its own quite well in each.

do u honestly think vipers and corvettes are built the same way as other dodges/chevys?

Well the viper has some ties with the dodge ram i believe?

The engine is somewhat close to the V-10 Ram engine IIRC.

I kind of feel the same way about the 97-04 vettes. Check out the new 6th generation 2005 Vette. i think it is the best looking one yet. They cleaned up all the bad spot on the C5's...like the rear end etc.

Oh absolutely I don't disagree at all. The Z06 is capable of 11.8x times out of the box as it is, is killer at the autox (its even in its own CLASS it is so good) and throws the hammer down quite well on the road course.

I heard that all the employees on the Corvette line are only allowed to fail 5 drug tests before they are kicked off the team

lingenfelter corvettes are ridiculously fast. This is a good alternative to buying the actual tuned tt corvette from them for 127k.

and this produces better figures on the z06. It's more like 800 bhp and 0-60 in around 2 and a 1/4 mile under 9 seconds.

No way it does 0-60 in 2 secs. But...search for lingenfelter on kazaa to see how these things embarrass other would be street racers. Check out those those videos, that 725hp vette looks like its being lauched out of a slingshot.

Don't try to sound smart when you don't know what you're talking about. $3000 is feasible. It'd be a pre-LT1 engine with the older digital dash and flat rear bumper instead of rounded like the ZR1. There isn't much demand for it, and stock makes very little horsepower; I've heard of dyno measurements of sub-175HP.

Also, there is no such thing as an '84 Corvette.

not exactly right..
John had been in a semi-comatose state since November 2002 when he entered into a coma during surgery that was necessary due to a racing accident in Pomona, California in October 2002.
